FG TO DISSOLVE THE VC SCREENING AND CANCEL THE MONDAY RESULT

President Goodluck Jonathan may dissolve
the Governing Council of Nnamdi
Azikiwe University Awka following the
petition from Prof Greg Nwakoby that his
inability to pay bribe of N60 Million
denied him the position of Vice Chancellor
which he won. Read the allegation:
The crisis rocking the contest for vice
chancellorship of Nnamdi Azikiwe
University,Awka has deepened with Prof.
Gregory Nwakoby,a strong contender for
the position, accusing some members of
the Governing Council of the University of
subverting the selection process and
demanding bribe of N30 million from
him.
Nwakoby who claimed that he took part
in the selection process for the vice
chancellor's post and later allegedly
emerged as top contender with 80.65
percent mark said yesterday that he is
being denied the UNIZIK vice
chancellorship because he refused to offer
gratification of N30 million to some
Council members .
Nwakoby,the current Deputy Vice
Chancellor in charge of Administration,
yesterday said that the alleged voting
exercise involving the council members
on Monday the 26th of May at which the
person who he said previously came
second was adjudged first and the best
was illegal and unacceptable.
He said that it was wrong and vexatious
for eleven members of the council to sit
on Monday the 26th of May and
conducted what he described as an illegal
voting exercise at which his closest rival
was declared winner of the vice
chancellorship, as according to Nwakoby,
when the selection exercise had indeed
ended with himself (Nwakoby) emerging
winner on the 24th of May.
Speaking on his grievances, Nwakoby
alleged that some people are working
against him because he refused to give out
money and bribe them.
“ I was invited by some members and
they told me that my other colleagues
have brought money, and since I am
marked as number one, I should go and
look for #30million each to share among
them.
“I refused to do such a thing because I
believe in merit and transparency. I am a
lawyer; I can’t compromise the integrity
of legal profession. I have chosen to
challenge that and I am willing to
challenge it to the last by instituting legal
action on them.” He declared.
Nwakoby further stressed that the
conducted voting by the council members
which they later claimed to have produced
a vice chancellor that was earlier in the
second position appeared to be stage-
managed by some superior officers in the
Aso Rock.
“How can the council aprobate and
reprobate, the very council that conducted
interview and somebody came first, now
the person is no longer competent and
qualified because I did not give money.
Nwakoby stated.
He stressed that the prevailing rule in the
appointment of vice chancellors is to the
effect that once the interview and
screening processes have ended and the
result published, the person that emerges
with the highest number of point would
be made a vice chancellor and that such
thing has never been subjected to any
voting process.
Nevertheless, he urged President Jonathan
to dissolve the council of UNIZIK for
allegedly being corrupt and fraudulent,
and to direct the council to issue him
letter of appointment as the new VC.
Already,the National Youths Council,
Anambra State chapter led by Ambassador
Chibuzo Ekwenye have thrown their
support for Nwakoby, saying that they
will take to the streets to protest if the
proper thing is not done.
Addressing journalists in Awka
yesterday,Ekwenye said they are reacting
for whoever emerges as Vice Chancellor
should focus on the affairs of the
teeming  youths in the country.

ZIKITES........THERE IS GODOOOO. PDP SPIRIT IN THE VC POST

Presidency official accused of interfering in UNIZIK’s Vice-Chancellor race

The last has not been heard of the race for the Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, as a new twist emerged alleging that a top shot in the presidency had at the last minute summoned the Chairman of the governing council of the university, Air Vice Marshal Larry Koinyan to the villa, where the result of the selection process was upturned to favour Prof Joe Ahaneku.

An aggrieved candidate, Prof Greg Nwakoby, who was earlier announced as the winner of the Vice Chancellorship position by radio and television announcement, while briefing the press on Tuesday in Awka stated that he had beat all the eight candidates shortlisted for the race, and wondered why he was removed.

Nwakoby, who is deputy Vice Chancellor Administration and a Professor of law in the
University, said that he is very qualified for the position of the Vice Chancellor of the institution, and that he was not surprised that out of the 34 persons that indicated interest for the job, he was among the nine shortlisted for the position.

He spoke further that the whole process has ab-initio been teleguided by an unseen hand, leading to his loss of trust in both the shortlist committee and the governing council.

He stated that the selection process took two parts, the first being the screening of certificates, publications and academic qualifications, while the second was interviews, and that he was sure he performed creditably in all the sections and came top on the list.

An executive summary sheet for result generated from the exercise which was handed to our reporter by Nwakoby, stated that he garnered a total vote of 89.65 percent to come top, and was followed closely by Prof Ahaneku with 80.65 percent.

According to Nwakoby, he had obtained the result from the chairman of the council, Koinyan, who also congratulated him after the interview session, but quickly added that he should know that victory comes with a cost and price, a statement he said he never understood until later.

After the interview which ended at about 5 am on 24th May, Nwakoby said they were told that the council was going to meet to announce the result officially, but they waited for several hours but the meeting was called off by the chairman of the council, who emerged and announced that he had been summoned by a presidency top official.

“I followed him, asking what the problem was, he told me he has been summoned in Abuja, but that I should be rest assured that I had won the race.

He handed me a copy of the result sheet and congratulated me. He also added to me that I should also know that victory comes with a cost and price, but I did not understand what he meant”, Nwakoby told journalists.

He added further that on Monday, the chairman of the shortlist committee, Bala Buhari called him to tell him that other candidates who he beat were already coming to them with cash, and that they would remove his name if he refused to come and see them.

“They demanded for me to raise N30 million each for the chairman and another member, Senator Fidelis Okoro. I told them I didn’t have such money, and that surely I won. Later we heard that there was going to be voting again, even though there was no tie, and they told me they were going to vote against me if I did not come to see them.

“John Nwodo is supposed to be a member of the governing council, but he has not been coming to meetings, so it was in Abuja that they appointed Ben Ndu as a replacement for John Nwodo, for the sole purpose of voting against me.

So my question is, if they want to go by voting, why subject us to the selection process?” He asked.

Nwakoby queried what was special about Nnamdi Azikiwe University that the presidency should show open interest in installing the Vice Chancellor.

He added that other federal universities have had their appointment of Vice Chancellors peacefully, and that of Nnamdi Azikiwe University should not be marred by pecuniary interest.

He said he has served the university since 1995, and has held several positions in the institution, and is also a lawyer and professor of law, so he was no push over, and will not let the decision to install Ahaneku to prevail.

“I am asking the President to dissolve this governing council because they have enmeshed themselves in corruption. I will fight this injustice through legal means and ensure that this does not stand”, he vowed.

Reacting also, the acting chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Chibuzor Ekwenye in a press briefing also called on the governing council to rescind its decision to foist Prof Ahaneku on the institution, saying that failure to do so will mean attracting the wrath of the youths.

“We are interested parties in the race, when a matter concerns about 5 million youths, the National Youth Council should be interested
because the fate of that number of youths is going to be in the hand of the Vice Chancellor.

“We are giving them 24 hours to reverse that decision and announce Prof Nwakoby who won the election through the approved selection process.

Failure to do so, we will take to the street; call it protest, call it demonstration, call it riot if you wish, but that is what we will do”.

Meanwhile, the management of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University through its Public Relations Officer, Dr Emma Ojukwu has called their bluff, and has gone ahead to announce that the institution has appointed a new VC.

A statement released by Ojukwu reads, “After an exhaustive process, the Governing Council of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka headed by Air Vice Marshal Larry Koinyan (Rtd) has appointed a Professor of Chemical Pathology and Fellow, Academy of Science, Joseph Eberendu Ahaneku as the fifth Vice Chancellor of the University.

“Professor Ahaneku takes over from Prof. Boniface C. E. Egboka who will vacate office on June 3, 2014. Until his appointment Prof. Ahaneku had served under Prof. Egboka’s administration as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) for four years.

In a letter signed by the Chairman and Pro-Chancellor AVM Larry Koinyan (Rtd) on behalf of the Governing Council, Prof. Ahaneku will serve for 5 years.

A native of Mbaise in Imo State, Professor Ahaneku has served the University for 24 years in different capacities culminating in this most recent appointment.

CONTROVERSY BEHIND THE ELECTION OR SHOULD I SAY SELECTION OF OUR V. C.

UNBELIEVABLE: Prof Joe Ahaneku from Imo State was yesterday elected as the Vice Chancellor of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka.

There was tension in the institution at the weekend, following the inconclusive election of a Vice Chancellor by the Governing Council.

The Chairman of the Governing Council, Air Vice Marshall (AVM) Larry Koiyan, left everybody stranded last Saturday when he claimed that he had been summoned by the Presidency. He did not announce the result of the exercise before leaving.

Before then, it was obvious that Prof. Greg Nwakoby, who came first during the exercise with 89.65 per cent, was to be announced as the successor to the outgoing Vice Chancellor, Prof. Boniface Egboka.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in the institution has said the Federal Government should reconsider the appointment of a pro-chancellor to the council of the university.

The union led by Prof. Ike Odimegwu, briefing reporters yesterday, described the action of the council led by AVM Koiyan as a dramatic conspiracy.

“It is unfortunate to say that the council chairman has shown a frustrating penchant for not replying to letters, not even acknowledging receipt.

“This is a most uncivilised behaviour to say the least, especially from a pro -chancellor.

However, the council members met again on May 8 and 20 and reaffirmed their resolution to stick to the template they had adopted,” they said.

“The last part of this massacre drama played out last week when the two senate members in the selection committee refused to accept the template/guidelines issued by the council, insisting on inventing their format.

“Quite curiously, the council chairman, who is also the chairman of the selection committee, agreed with them to throw away the council guidelines, throw away the shortlist report and begin a fresh process.

“But they did not stop there. By the time they emerged from their night meeting and one of the candidates was projected as the vice chancellor, even before the report was presented to the council, the purpose of this nightmare became clear,” they said.

A member representing Congregation-in- Governing Council, Dr. Godson Okafor, said yesterday in Awka that the days ahead might be rough, but they needed to stop what he called the impunity, which had been entrenched in the institution.

Prof. Ahaneku's election is now awaiting confirmation by the presidency.

AHANEKU DECLARED THE NEW VICE CHANCELLOR

The election conducted on Friday last week that produced Prof Greg NWAKOBY as the Vice Chancellor has taken another phase. According to my intel all test they were put through, Prof Ahaneku, the former DVC academics took the lead but it was given to Prof Greg Nwakoby.
But since then there had been series of meetings held to that effect even as the SUG opening legal year celebration was going in the faculty of law, they were busy in the MPH holding their meeting. I sense the two factions of ASUU here clashing with each other, trying to know who will take the mantle of leadership for the next five years.
Prof Joseph Eberendu Ahaneku has been appointed the new Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State

His appointment was disclosed on Monday by the Director of information of the university, Mr. Emmanuel Ojukwu, who said he beat two other contestants, Prof. Greg Nwakoby and Prof Ben Osisioma, to the position.

Ahaneku is the was the deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics) of the university before he stepped down. Nwakoby is the deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration). Osisioma is of the Department of Accounting.

The appointment of a new vice-chancellor had been deadlocked since Friday last week when the Council of the university was to announce its decision on who the new helmsman is.

Ojukwu said Ahaneku will assume office on June 3, 2014. He hails from Imo State.

He will be taking over from Prof. Boniface Egboka, who has been vice-chancellor since June 2008 after he took over from Prof. Ilochi Okafor.

Unizik is the second most sought after university in Nigeria based on the number of applicants that pick it as their first university of choice.

BEST COUPLE IN D ENTATENMENT

Few days ago I was surfing the internet for information but I could not lay my hands on any entertaining information until I came across something that is unusual this days. It is about two love birds who are kings in their territory, who are known with the names JAY Z and BEYONCE. Their encounter dated back 2003 when they did a show together and they have been together since then. It is unusual in the sense that since they came together little is heard about their marriage or relationship. Unlike what is happening in the music industry today, getting married today divorcing tomorrow. So many bloggers are living a life affluence those break ups. Even, so many artists see it as a norm or culture you must practice if you are in the entertainment industry. Ask INI EDO how many men he has dated and married? Tu face, how many girls he has laid with? Tonto Dike, why she does want to walk down the isle?

Go and ask some of our upcoming UNIZIK stars like School boy, Plantain, I GO YAN and so many others, they will tell that is the trend........please don't tell them I said so. These couples deserve to be celebrated if not, for encouraging the upcoming and the already established ones to be faithful to that course which is sticking it with their yuppy.

AN INTERROGATION IN THE COURT OF LAW

In a court trial, a lawyer called his first witness who happens to an elderly grandmother, to the box, and began to cross examine her.

Lawyer : "Mama Vero " do you know me.

Mama Vero: yes, i do know you lawyer pollus. I've known you since you were a young boy, and to be frank, you have been a disapointment to your parents and to the society, you are a liar, you cheat people including your wife. You manipulate people and talk about them behind their backs. You think you are a big man when you don't even have brain and manners. Yes' i know u!..

The lawyer was stunned, not knowing what else to do, he pointed across the room and
asked again;

Lawyer Pollus: "Mama Vero" do you know the defence lawyer?

She replied;

Mama Vero: yes i do, i've known lawyer Gideon since he was a young boy too, he has been your very good friend because the two of you have the same character. He has also been a very lazy man and he has a drinking problem. Infact, he is a criminal, he can't even build a normal relationship with
anyone, his law pratice is one of the worst in the country.
Not to mention, he cheated on his wife with more than 3 different women, one of them
was your wife, yes, i know him.

The defence lawyer almost fainted.

Just then, the judge called both lawyers to his table and in a very quiet voice, said, ''if any of you idiots ask her if she knows me, l will make sure you lose your license. 😆😆😆😆

LESSON FROM THE BIRD........

" The most important decision we ever make is whether we believe we live in a friendly or hostile universe."
...because we don't see and experience things as they are, but as We are! We project our own ideas and beliefs onto the world. Perception is projection. I've seen it so many times in so many people. There are those who believe that the world is hostile, dangerous, that there's never enough, that bad things always happen etc., seem to attract all of this stuff towards them whereas those who feel that the cosmos is friendly, generous, full of opportunity, basically safe and supportive generally experience this as their reality.

Ask yourself which you would rather(?) because it seems that our basic attitude is a self-fulfilling prophecy. We almost always get what we expect. I know that it seems if I wake up in a good mood, on a high, then all day long things seem to flow, to just work out. I walk down the road and it's just as if everyone I pass is smiling at me and the sun is shining. On the other hand, if I wake up feeling low, get out of bed on the wrong side, then it follows that I'll see the negative in everything and just struggle along.

It's taken me a long time to really realize that this is actually all my own choice, deep down. Everything begins from within. No doubt each individual's most basic idea of whether the universe is friendly/hostile is formed at a very early age, determined very much by early experiences, conditioning and impressions. Because of this, it can seem that our outlook is pretty fixed, but it's not.

We always have the choice to change our minds about anything. In fact mind, body and just about everything else is constantly changing anyway. So to shift that inner-attitude to a more positive one is just natural. It's evolution. It may actually be the case that the universe is neither hostile nor friendly - but just neutral??

Even so, if you look into the eyes of a newborn baby, see a bird on the wing or a shooting star, or watch a beautiful sunset you will just know, without a doubt, that there is something divine, miraculous, infinitely loving and supportive behind it all. I don't know what it's called, maybe it's better nameless, but I do think that Einstein was right again when he said, "the most beautiful thing we can experience is the mystery".

DIRECT YOUR GRIEVIANCES TO BOKO HARAM AND NOT TO ME; AN ORDER?

President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday urged those who have been protesting the abduction of more than 200 schoolgirls in Chibok, Borno State to henceforth direct their protests to terrorists and not the government.

He also urged them to learn from citizens of other countries who do not blame their governments for any terrorist acts in their nations.

The president also admitted publicly for the first time that his administration was currently consulting with some stakeholders with a view to exploring what he called alternative methods of resolving the present crisis.

Jonathan made the disclosure in speech delivered on his behalf by the Minister of State, Federal Capital Territory, Olajumoke Akinjide, to a team of #BringBackOurGirls campaigners led by a former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili.

The protesters who earlier planned to take their protest to the Presidential Villa where they wanted Jonathan to address them were restricted to the Federal Secretariat within the Three Arms Zone, a few metres away from the Villa gate by security agencies.

Those who joined Akinjide in the delegation that represented Jonathan at the rally included the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Pius Anyim; Minister of FCT, Bala Mohammed; Minister of Information, Labaran Maku; Minister of Women Affairs, Zaynab Maina; and Minister of Environment, Lawrencia Laraba.

Others were the Special Adviser to the President on Ethics and Values, Sarah Jubiril; Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Reuben Abati and Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe, among others.

Jonathan, in the speech, made spirited efforts to convince the protesters that contrary to their belief, his administration was working hard in conjunction with the international community to rescue the abducted girls and end terrorism.

He said it was wrong and unfair to say that there was a slow response to the abduction.

He said, “It is wrong and most unfair to suggest that there was a slow reaction to this kidnapping. As Commander-in-Chief, Mr. President meets with the security chiefs almost daily and he is on constant consultation with regional and global partners on this terrorists’ threat.

“That is why I want to appeal to your group and to others through this medium that it is important that genuine patriotic zeal is matched with the realistic understanding of the situation in expressing concern and sentiment on this matter and other matters of terrorism.

“As early as January 23, 2013, Mr. President at Davos, Switzerland asked the world for help in tackling terrorism. He later met with President Obama during the United Nations General Assembly meeting in September 2013 where he also requested for the support of the United States of America.

“Government believes that we must all come together to fight terrorism and that protest should be directed at the terrorists who have abducted our innocent daughters and deprive them of a place at the fountain of freedom in our country.

“Our security forces are among the best trained in Africa, they are making so much sacrifices in the fight against terror. As we sleep daily, they are on the field confronting the enemy. They need our support, not attack and discouragement. They are also losing their lives.

“When terrorists see Nigerians turn on each other in blame, it gives them a huge moral boost. We must never lose sight of the fact that the terrorists are the real enemies.”

Jonathan warned the protesters and Nigerians against politicising the anti-terrorism campaign, saying nationals of other countries do not behave that way.

“We must be careful not to politicise the campaign against terrorism. When a bomb goes off in Kabul, Afghanistan, the people of Afghanistan do not blame the government, they blame the terrorists.

“When a bomb goes off in Baghdad, Iraq, the people of Iraq do not blame the government, they blame the terrorists.

“When a bomb goes off in Islamabad, Pakistan, the people of Pakistan do not blame the government, they blame the terrorists.

“When a bomb goes off in Nigeria, we must all unite to fight the terrorists. This is the task of this generation.

“Our daughters must be freed to come home to their parents and loved ones. Our daughters must be freed so that they can return to schools to receive their education.

“Our daughters must be freed so that they can return home to be with their friends and play like all children their age do.

“All Nigerians must unite against terror, whether we be male or female, old or young, North or South, irrespective of political or religious affiliation. This is our fight, we must unite. The Federal Government is united with the people of Nigeria in this fight,” he added.

The President reeled out the various steps his administration had taken to rescue the abducted girls.

These, according to him included military and diplomatic efforts.

Beyond that, he said he had started consultation for alternative methods of resolving the impasse.

He added, “Government has mobilised all resources, military and diplomatic, in the search for our girls who have suffered so much trauma in captivity by agents of terror.

“From the very first day this kidnapping occurred, the Federal Government took action, directing our security services to go after the abductors.

“The search for our daughters has now assumed regional and global proportions and our nation has received strong supports from our neighbouring countries and the international community, including the United States, China, Africa, the United Kingdom and the entire African continent.

“The security forces have also reached out to the Borno State Government and community members for support and collaboration to bring back our innocent daughters. So far, the campaign to bring our daughters back home is on and is receiving global support.

“Nigeria in collaboration with Niger, Chad, Cameroon and Benin Republic have all agreed to establish a single centre for sharing intelligence on the activities of terrorists across our national boundary.

“Apart from those efforts on the public space, we have initiated consultations with so many stakeholders to explore alternative methods of resolving this crisis.”

The President urged civil society groups to use their influence to encourage Nigerians to provide useful information to the security services, using the emergency number 112, saying citizens must protect citizens if their civilisation is to endure.

He however appreciated the support and efforts of the group and others across the worldwide against the kidnap and senseless mayhem.

He described the act as very painful, adding that the world is under the grip of terrorism

TODAY'S READING..... LOVE

LOVE & SPIRITUAL GIFTS

Memorise:
Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy.
1 Corinthians 14:1

Read:
1 Corinthians 12:1-2

1 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.
2 Ye know that ye were Gentiles, carried away unto these dumb idols, even as ye were led.
Message

Our God is the Almighty. He is the King of kings and the Lord of lords. He is also good and His mercy endures forever. One character of God that is transmissible through us is love. How do we show that we know God? It is by showing His love (1 John 4:8). Let us love one another. Let’s demonstrate the love of God to our brethren. Let’s show them that we care. The people we are to show love to includes those that are lovable and those that do not deserve our love. Do you love your critics? Do you love your persecutors? Do you love the unlovable? Love or charity has many beautiful attributes (1 Corinthians 13:1-13). Gifts are nothing without love. Love is kind and patient. Love bears long with the weak and needy. How kind are you? Do you demonstrate kindness in all you do? How patient are you? Some Christians are rash. They act before thinking. Such people cannot be said to demonstrate love. Love does not envy others. Jealousy is not in the dictionary of love. It is pathetic that many souls have been destroyed by jealousy. An envious soul does not see anything good in the achievements of others. Are you controlled by love or jealousy? Love is not self-centred. It cares for others. Do you love your brethren and care for them? One way to demonstrate that you care for your brethren as a lady is through modest dressing. One who really loves does not dress to kill. She is dressed to save. Christians who wear indecent clothes cannot be said to love their brethren. Another attribute of love is faith. Love believes the whole counsel of God. Love does not only believe the word of God, it acts on it. Love does not think evil. It does not live in suspicion of others. Love is humble. God is love because love is humble. God associates with the humble. If you say you love, let it reflect in your humility. Be humble. Don’t brag about your achievements. Don’t insist on bearing titles which reflect self-aggrandisement.

Love never fails to receive from God. One of the innumerable blessings of love is the right to receive answer to prayers. Those who love easily receive from God. Such people also go about doing what can be described as good. In Acts 10:38 we are told that Jesus went about doing good because God was with Him. God is always with the people who live in love. He associates with them. Consequently, miracles, signs and wonders attest to their ministry. Do you want the manifestation of the gifts of the Spirit in your ministry? Live in love. Let your impact be felt for good in the life of others. Sacrifice your talents, money and other resources for the salvation and betterment of others. Spend quality time in prayer, bible study and demonstrate that you love the brethren.

Action Point:
List five ways to manifest love in a sour relationship, then go ahead and implement them.
