your duty or dream. Its not just about the blog, but the same zeal and
keenness is always visible and apparent whenever you opt to handle
issues. During SUG week, you surprised me with yet such spirit even
though it should have worth you more accolades, the rest are stories
we all know. My broda, in earnest I mean to congratulate you on your

SUG ELECTIONS: WHY I'V BEEN SILENT? WHAT I HAVE SEEN - COMR. EZENWA OBIORA

Its is evident to all that the SUG unizik has been in an almost-dead
state, where the SUG is taken to be a business venture, where
individual go-in to. Enrich themselves.

For three session now we'v had a ZERO-IMPACT government, a government
that is NOT for the people. People with sweet un-implementable
manifestos, with good sense of dressing, with "sweet mouth" buy the
hearts of students with these techniques, get into the government and
become WOLVES.

We have really suffered from politics of interest, where godfatherism
is the order of the day, funds which are supposed to be used for the
effective running of the union are embezzled/syphoned and given to
godfathers in disguise of pledging loyalty, ARRANT NONSENSE!!!

Where offices in the union are blanked and left dormant, for instance:
I spend N9000 monthly on USN (internet modem subscription) alone not
even others with my money, Comr. Cindy Udoye used her money to run
freshers night for year 1 students and many more.

My fellow students I speak with indepth understanding of every "nuk nd
crani" in UNIZIK SUG, it is NO more about what the person says in
his/her manifesto or the person's personality, my people its basically
about who and who are behind an aspirant, because they'll direct him
and guide him; so he is not misdirected.

For few months I'v been less concerned about the election but I'v
decieded to wake-up to the challenges of the union, I have done my
homework and will break my silence after the oration.

We and only we can salvage our dying union...

WEIRED! STUNNED FISHERMAN CATCHES COMPLETELY SEE-THROUGH FISH (PHOTOS)

A fisherman in waters north of New Zealand came across an odd-looking,
translucent sea creature swimming on the surface. Curious, he caught
the creature--presumably scooping it up with a net--to get a closer
look.
It was described as a see-through, shrimp-like creature by the U.K. MailOnline.
"It felt scaly and was quite firm, almost jelly like, and you couldn't
see anything inside aside from this orange little blob inside it,"
fisherman Stewart Fraser told MailOnline.
Fraser, who had been fishing with sons Conaugh and Finn 43 miles north
of the Karikari Peninsula, took photos and shared them with his
fishing buddies, none of whom could identify the sea creature.
"We have no idea what it could have been, but it was quite something,
and I'd never seen anything like it before," he said.
Fortunately, the folks at the National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth,
U.K., had an idea, identifying it as a Salpa maggiore (Salpa maxima).
Paul Cox, director of conservation and communication at the aquarium,
told MailOnline that a salp is barrel-shaped, moves by pumping water
through its gelatinous body, and that the life-cycle includes
alternate generations of existing as solitary individuals or as a
group forming long chains.
"In common with other defenseless animals that occupy open
water--jellies and hydroids, for example--the translucence presumably
provides some protection from predation," Cox told MailOnline. "Being
see-through is a pretty good camouflage in water."
The report doesn't say, but it is presumed Fraser threw the bizarre
sea creature back into the ocean.

BIZARRE: WIFE WHO GAVE HUSBAND HER KIDNEY WANTS IT BACK AFTER HE DUMPED HER

A loving wife who saved her husband's life by giving him one of her
kidneys now wants it back after he dumped her. Andy Lamb was dying of
renal kidney failure and was only being kept alive by weekly sessions
of dialysis until his wife Samantha persuaded him to take one hers.
The 41-year-old mother-of-one who got married to him in 2007 told the
Sunday People:
'He needed a new kidney or he would die.He was on dialysis three times
a week. I told Andy he should go through with it. He had children from
an earlier relationship and he wanted to be there for them.'
Samantha believes he was having an affair with her friend Clare who
she confronted and which Andy denies.Samantha gave her husband one
more chance but claims she later discovered he was having sex chats
online with women. Andy finally left his wife in August 2012. While
she was working a night shift at Tesco he moved his stuff out of their
home including the TV and stereo before posting the keys through the
letter box without a note or letter. Samantha said:
'I would definitely go through the operation again - but I wouldn't
give the kidney to him.I hate him. If I could I'd take it back and
give it to someone else.'
Andy still denies having an affair with Samantha's friend but admits
walking out on her. He said:
'I never wanted her to donate her kidney because it was a big risk.
But she insisted and I'll always owe her my life'.
At the time of the operation Andy said:
'Sam's doing all this for me and I'll never get over that. She is just
amazing and fantastic.I could never put into words how I feel about
this. If this happens she will have given me the gift of life.

22 CHURCH WORSHIPPERS MASSACRED BY BOKO HARAM IN ADAMAWA

A set of the Boko Haram fighters, armed with guns and explosives,
on Sunday killed 22 worshippers at a church service in Waga
Chakawa, Adamawa State.
Witnesses toldReutersthat insurgents set off bombs and fired into the
congregation in the Catholic Church in a village in Adamawa State.
They said the insurgents also burnt houses and took residents
hostage during the four-hour siege.
The spokesman for the Catholic Diocese of Yola, Rev. Father Raymond
Danbouye, said those killed were buried at a funeral on Monday.
In the last one week, over 100 persons have been killed in attacks
by members of the terror group. These attacks, according to the
United Nations, led to 6,000 persons fleeing to neighbouring countries
like Cameroon and Niger Republic. On January 14 for instance, a car
bomb exploded in Maiduguri, killing about 70 people. Communities like
Kwaljiri, Kaya, Ngawo Fate, Limanti, Njaba, Yahuri, Mude, Wala and
Alau in the Damboa, Konduga and Gwoza Local Government Areas have all
been sacked by the terrorists.

"ONLY A FOOLISH MAN WILL VOTE JONATHAN" - GOV. AMAECHI

Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State has declared that only a
foolish man will vote for President Goodluck Jonathan in the 2015
general election.
Amaechi said this on Saturday at a rally in Bori, Ogoni land after
previous attempts where the police and hoodlums disrupted similar
rallies, shooting sporadically into the crowd and scores injured.
He blamed the police Commissioner, Mr. Joseph Mbu, for allowing
militants take up arms against the people.
According to Amaechi: "The same people (militants) we chased away with
the military are back to our state, fuelled by a man called Mbu and
his cohorts in Abuja.
"They do not mind that your lives are important. They want to
sacrifice your lives just to earn the office of presidency and the
office of governorship," Amaechi told his supporters at Saints'
Anglican Church premises.
He berated an ex-militant who was said to have masterminded last
week's shooting.
"In 2007, this territory (Ogoni) belonged to one man called Solomon. I
learnt he came to shoot here (Bori). Nobody could gather. Police could
not even gather here. They were being shot at. I bought for the police
7 APCs (Armoured Personnel Carriers). They were afraid," he said.
This time, the rally organised by Save Rivers Movement (SRM) was
peaceful with armed policemen providing security in and around the
area.
He said the release of the funds would have transformed the four local
government areas of Khana, Gokana, Tai and Eleme.
"UNEP finished all it needed to do and recommended that at least $1
billion was required to cleanup Ogoni and develop the Ogoni people,"
Amaechi said.
He further took a swipe at President Goodluck Jonathan, saying "Have
you seen the $1 billion (from the federal government) and they want
you to vote for them? It will be a foolish man that will vote for the
person, who denies you your rights.
"ÜNEP asked Federal government to spend $1billion in Ogoni to change
things, they said no. $49.8 billion is missing. If they say $49.8
billion is not missing, let them tell us where the money is. Let them
publish. It is in their pocket."
"Without the UNEP report, the federal government cannot develop Ogoni.
You are all suffering. You cannot fish. You cannot farm because your
land is polluted."
He called on the Ogoni and the people of the state to stand up to
whoever might want to intimidate them for political gains.
Continuing, "I do not want to come back to Ogoni to hear that you were
shattered. I do not want you to take the law into your own hands but I
want you to make sure that nobody shoots at you.
"They (gun-wielding militants) are all human beings. They are not
ghosts. They are neither angels nor devil. They are human beings like
you. If a man slaps you and gets away with it, tomorrow, he will come
back.
"The history of Ogoni is replete with struggle. They killed Ken
Saro-Wiwa (during the regime of the late Gen. Sani Abacha on November
10, 1995).Is the struggle over?
"The man said you might take away my life but you would not take away
the idea. You can kill the messenger, not the message. The idea of the
liberation of the Ogoni people, is it not still on? I have been part
of that idea."
On party politics, he said: "PDP claims to be the biggest party in
Nigeria. APC is the fastest -growing party in Nigeria. Then, there was
no ACN, no CPC, only PDP in Rivers State. Now, they have seen another
party, why are they afraid?
"Why are they fighting? Why are they shooting? Why are they using
policemen? They should allow voting to take place."

AN OPEN LETTER TO THE SUG PRESIDENT BY COMR. AGU DAVID, SUG PRO 2011/2012 SESSION

Nnamdi Azikiwe University

Awka, Anambra State.

Mon, 21st January, 2014
My Dear Hillary,

IT'S PROBABLY TOO LATE

Actually, I feel constrained to avoid using the title 'comrade' in
addressing you. This is because, methinks associating the name Hillary
Ugwu with the noble title of a 'comrade' evidently sounds
inappropriate. It would definitely seem to be a misplaced appliance.
So, I crave your pardon, my dear Hillary, for I shall continue to
address you throughout this letter without the usual sycophantic use
of the title 'Comrade', to avoid a lucid case of giving honour to who
such is not due. In the last more than one year of your being in
office as the President of the Students Union Government, Unizik,
particularly at the beginning of your administration, I have on
several occasions, one-on-one, or over the phone, advised you against
failing on the hopes and mandate placed on you by the tens of
thousands of students of unizik to represent them as their union
leader. On every of such occasions, however, it has always dawned on
me that those advice were being heaped on mere deaf ears. Eventually
you even stopped picking my calls. And so far, nearly every other
student of the school that has had the 'rare privilege' of possessing
your cell Phone number has complained of having their calls
incessantly ignored by you, no matter the emergency of the
circumstances of the calls. Yet, these are the same students, whose
welfare and downtrodden voices, you pledged, during your campaign, to
fight for and uphold (in fact, I can still remember you clearly on
that manifesto-presentation day, 10th Dec. 2012, shouting at the top
of your voice, as though you were close to tears, about how
passionately you were going to fight for, and protect, the interests
of the students, if elected). We fell for the trick, I more than any
other, and we elected you our Union leader two days after. Except that
since then, to put it mildly, every shred of what was left of unionism
has totally vanished from unizik. And in its place, we now have a
Students Union Government that has become a disgrace, not just to the
idea of a union, but to the concept of studentship. thus, even as you
prepare to leave the office for the next president, I have decided to
write you, for perhaps you may yet seize this one last opportunity to
do at least just one good act that could save you from the
nomenclature of being addressed as the "worst thing that ever happened
to the students of Unizik".

Most people often refer to me as a fearless writer. And when I hear
them say it, I just laugh because unknown to them, I have fears just
like anyone else. In fact, as I write you this letter, I'm scared to
the bones about what might become my fate for daring to openly
criticize the SUG president so openly. I'm scared of the possible
devices, agents, or authorities you might now employ to fight against
me as a 'payback' for this action of mine. So, you see, I'm not
fearless; am simply courageous. For courage is indeed that
strengthening substance which spurs you to action despite the presence
of fears. So please, I pray you to indulge my restless pen to point
out just a few of your massive record-setting failures as a union
leader.

One date that stands vivid in my mind is 9th of December, 2012. That
was just two days after I was prevented from becoming the SUG
president through a disqualification that was uncalled for. On that
very Sunday afternoon, as one of the remaining three candidates, you
came to meet with me at Thrillers, Aroma Awka, to ask for my support.
You pleaded solemnly with me to adopt you as my candidate for the SUG
presidency, speaking of your passion to bring a change and all that. I
looked at your situation and felt pity. You were almost alone, without
money, without the right people, and you equally lacked much
popularity among the students. So I chose you. But before I did, I
asked you for only one thing, "when you become the President, please
give a listening ear to the voices of the students, and always strive
to give effect to their yearnings". I told you that I had lost a lot,
especially due to my unjustified disqualification, but that all I had
left was my good name on campus, especially among the students, which
till date remains my most important asset. You promised not to
disappoint the students if they gave you the mandate. With that solemn
promise, I gave you my word; we set to work, and you became the Union
President, winning others with a large margin. Alas, just a day after,
you changed drastically and as time went on one could hardly recognize
you anymore. From then on, we only remembered that we have a Union
President, a terrible one at that, each time there's the usual bad
news orchestrated by you.

I remember when, last year, ahead of the 2013 Anambra guber, you went
to meet with a certain candidate in the gubernatorial election for him
to give you money (and the said politician had quite a lot to share at
that time) so that you will deliver the votes of the students to him.
Possibly because the Union Vice President refused to accompany you on
such a filthy journey, you took another girl of your choice, whom you
made to impersonate the true VP of SUG Unizik, as you presented her to
the politician as the real VP. When the news of the scandal broke out,
you had no apology to anyone. By that time your pride and arrogance
had grown beyond remedy. Next, you seized all sources of income to the
Union Government, denying the Fin SEC and Treasurer their
constitutional rights to handle the Union's income. As a result of the
insistence of the duo of the financial officers of the Union that
things must be done rightly, that they must be allowed to exercise
their constitutional rights over the Union's finances, they were
beaten to stupor and locked up in a cell by the security in defense of
your selfish and corrupt interest. You felt like the happiest man on
earth that your fellow comrades had been messed up and disgraced by
the security men of the school in front of the students who look up to
them (the comrades) with the hope of protecting them from security
harassments. Afterwards, in response to any security unjustified
battering of any student, the slogan has become, "if they beat SUG
executives anyhow, how much more us the ordinary students". Thus the
students have lost all hopes of finding solace in the SUG Officials
whenever they face mistreatment from any quarter of the school. Kudos,
Mr President, for you can count that as your achievement.

Dear Hillary, Considering that the School lacks adequate on-campus
accommodation for the students, as you know about ninety percent of
the students live in off-campus Hostels built by private individuals.
Today, the cheapest you can get a room in any of the Unizik off-campus
hostels is N100,000 ( one hundred thousand Naira) per year. Some other
rooms cost as much as N160,000 (one hundred and sixty thousand naira)
per room, yearly. What is obtainable right here now is an
unimpeachable case of extortion meted out against the students by
businessmen who now see the students as the fastest means to enrich
themselves. A lot of students are homeless today as a result of this.
And the students have a President? Mr. Hillary (sorry, like I told
you, I shall not ever address you with the title 'comrade'), you have
not as much as uttered a word to the discouragement of this ugly trend
talk more of mobilizing action against it. The students keep
lamenting, but it seems no one is listening, and none is coming to
their rescue. And of course, they don't really expect intervention
from the SUG anyways, because to them no SUG exists here; talk more of
its president. And for you, they can complain all they want; it's
really none of your business, right?

Students now pay as much as N40 as transport fare for short distances
just within the University campus, such that by the time one is done
with their lectures and other activities within the campus, they are
spending close to N200 naira daily on just transport fare within the
campus. And this is not really the fault of the drivers. Hillary, in
this case you are the one extorting from the good students of Unizik
through the exorbitant levies you impose on the drivers daily. In turn
the drivers push back the expences to the students to bear the final
blunt. When the SUG Night held last year, a lot of innocent students
were badly injured by the thugs you positioned at the school gate to
extort N200 from each of the thousands of the students who had trooped
out to participate in the yearly show. That show had always been
totally free, being the only major social event organized by the SUG
for the students, each of whom had already paid the SUG Dues through
their school fees. In the end, all the students who had attended that
event went home full of consternation, for not only was the show a
total flop ("the worst SUG night ever", said one of the students who
had attended), but they had been forced to pay to attend their own
event.

I was at the University Hostels recently to meet with the students
living there. The University Hostels, as you know, represents the true
community of students of Unizik. Basically, they were the ones that
voted you in, and I was the one that took you to them to beg for their
endorsement, with you pledging to stay close to them, and help solve
their problems, if you became President. Now, more than a year after,
they lamented that you've never as much as set your feet into the
Hostels since you became President, talk more of helping to solve
their problems.

Generally this is what the students of Unizik have to say about your
presidency, "we only know that we still have SUG or an SUG President
just when he (the president) cruises past on Unizik roads with his
official vehicle, blowing dust on all of our faces, without remorse".
I was discussing with some of the university staff few days ago, and
one of the staff told me that when he tried to caution you over your
inordinate arrogance and despicably poor performance as the student's
president, this was what you replied him, "no matter how much anybody
complains, it can never remove even a single hair from my skin". So my
question remains, Hillary how could you allow yourself to become this
despicable?

Your failures as SUG President of the giant Nnamdi Azikiwe University
abounds, but, of course, it would be wrong of anybody to blame you
solely for the ignoble failures of the SUG. The mess didn't start with
you. As a matter of fact, the President before you so neglected the
students and their welfare that we thought that there couldn't
possibly be anything worse than that, nor that any worse president
could ever emerge for the SUG. Alas! You have broken all records of
leadership failures locally and nationally. The Union had been
critically sick since 2003; you merely brought death upon it. You've
ended the life of Unionism in Unizik in a very unceremonious manner.

I remember discussing with Prof Ike Odimegwu, Chairman ASUU Unizik
some months back about the state of the students union government of
the school; when I asked him his opinion about performance of the
current SUG, he simply replied, "I don't know if there is any Students
Union Government President here, or is there? I'm even not aware
there's a students Unionism in Unizik, not to talk of a government of
that Union". And I was embarrassed on your behalf, Mr. President. But
most importantly I felt sorry for the students of Unizik who have lost
all feeling of prestige and respect because their President and the
entire government he leads have merely deteriorated to a pitiable
caricature to the generality of the university system.

I always come close to shedding tears each time I remember what you
presented yourself to be prior to your election, which is an alarming
contrast to what you have become since you were elected. It simply
speaks volumes of the unimaginable extent of deceitfulness and
untrustworthiness a human can deteriorate to. And your ignoble
failures have made me even more afraid of the future of Nigeria
because the youth, like you, who are expected to discharge energetic
and corrupt-free leadership in whatever positions they are privileged
to be in have continually shown that they are even worse than the old
corrupt folks ruling our country today. Thus our future is certainly
in peril. This brings to mind the total failure of National
Association of Nigerian Students(NANS). While the students were at
home wasting due to the last ASUU strike, Yinka Gbadebo, the NANS
President was busy moving about with the PDP guber candidate in the
last Anambra guber election. And after he had obviously collected
enough monetary settlement from the said candidate, he climbed the PDP
campaign stage to declare that he was moving the NANS headquarters to
Anambra State until the election was over. And he fulfilled his
promise considering the alarming number of strange-faced thugs that
were seen roaming about all corners of the state during that period.
And but for the strong intervention of the Police and military, the
election would've witnessed a free-for-all thuggery during that
election. This is merely what students unionism has been reduce to in
Nigeria today, which is in sharp contrast with the students' unionism
of some decades ago. There were years ago when the voices and
agitation of the Nigerian students through their union leaders were
feared by even the most fierce of military Presidents of Nigeria. Take
for instance the students agitation against the Structural Adjustment
Program (SAP) policy of Babangida military Administration. During that
period the students were able to get the military government to change
their infamous policy. Other examples abound. But not anymore. Right
now, NANS has become an appendage of the government in power; indeed
the youth organ of the PDP.

So, Hillary, my question is, don't you think we (the students) will be
better without the SUG at all? Indeed, I recommend that the SUG be
scrapped to alleviate the frustrating hopelessness of the students who
have already given up. But for now, as the new SUG president gets
ready to take over from you soon, do me this favour: don't fail to
tell your successor that though you have made a lot of money from your
Presidency, yet you have felt no happiness, because none have spoken a
good word about you, and because all around you, you have perceived
nothing more than failure. Advice him to pursue good name first and
material gains will surely follow. And my last request is that you
should do the society a great favour by subsequently avoiding to hold
any further position(s) of leadership anywhere whatsoever, for as you
have proven beyond doubts, leadership is really not one of your gifts.

Sincerely Yours,
Comr. Agu David

COMMUNITY PROTESTS RELOCATION OF IMO STATE POLY

Mixed reactions have continued to trail the community protest that led
to indefinite postponement of the matriculation ceremony of Imo State
Polytechnic, Umuagwo in Ohaji-Egbema Local Government Area.
The host community of the institution last Friday staged a violence
protest against the school management over the state Government's
proposed plan to relocate the institution to Orlu, Orlu Local
Government Area of the state.
The protest, which led to the postponement of the scheduled
matriculation ceremony slated for January 24, 2014, took the visitors
and the school management by surprise, as members of the community
numbering over 1000 besieged the school demanding that the school
should not be relocated. The protesters, who destroyed tables, chairs
and other items, also demanded the immediate removal of the school
Rector, Rev. Fr Wence Nmadu.
Some indigenes, who spoke to National Mirror in Owerri, reacted
differently to the violence protest that sent parents, guardians and
friends including the lecturers and students who came to witness the
occasion scampering for safety following the development.

NIGERIA'LL REACH ITS DESTINATION - JONATHAN

President Goodluck Jonathan, yesterday, reiterated that despite the
challenges facing the country in various facets, the country will
reach its destination of greatness.
Speaking at a church service at the Goshen City, the Headquarters of
the Winners Chapel, President Jonathan said what the Nigerian leaders
need were prayers for them to lead the country aright.
He expressed the commitment of his administration to do the right
things at all times for the country.
The President stated: "I am not here to make a formal speech as we
have learnt to talk very little, just like the Bishop said in his
sermon, your prayers have been helpful.
I request that you continue to pray for this country. Bishop, thank
you for your message, it has been very instructive.
"As I listened to your message certain things were being reflected. I
assure you this country will cross the bridge. Yes, we have challenges
as a nation. Even the most developed nations pass through stages
sometimes even more challenging than we face today. But what happened,
yesterday, (Saturday) in South Africa will be the story of this
nation.
"Those of you who watched that match will know that it is not easy at
the beginning, it was as if Nigeria was going to be demolished, but
all of a sudden the young men came very strong and we won.
"That is how it will be with the story of this country! With your
prayers and commitment we will get to the destination. The promised
land has never been an easy one for any nation, it was not easy for
the israelites and I promise that myself and my colleagues will
continue to do what is right for this country.
"The bishop said it all that as mere mortals, there may be errors, but
our commitment to do what is right is total.
"We will do our best but like I always say whatever I do I should be
able to tell God why I did it. All what we require is your prayers,
and Nigeria will get to its destination," the President said.
In his remarks, Bishop David Abioye commended President Jonathan for
signing the Same-Sex Marriage Prohibition Act, saying it will serve as
a good example to other African countries.

I AM STILL IN PDP - TAMBUWAL

SPEAKER of the Federal House of Representatives, Alhaji Aminu
Tambuwal, yesterday debunked speculations that he is planning a
defection to the All Peoples Congress.. He said he still remains a
member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) despite widespread
insinuations that he was dumping the party for the All Progressive
Congress (APC).
Meanwhile, the Speaker has described Governor Adams Oshiomhole as a
defender of democracy, and achiever.
Tambuwal spoke in Benin City shortly after paying a condolence visit
to the Benin Monarch, Oba Erediauwa on the death of his eldest wife,
Queen Esther Erediauwa. He also paid a courtesy visit to Governor
Oshiomhole at Government House.
Asked if he is still a member of the PDP,, Tambuwal asserted that "I I
am still a member of the PDP".
Also, reacting to the directive of the APC leadership that the
National Assembly should not pass the Budget, the Speaker said that
the directive is meant for APC lawmakers and not for PDP.
He said, the House of Representatives has been calling on the Federal
Government and security agencies to do everything possible to restore
peace in Rivers State.
Speaking at Government House Benin City,, Tambuwal said, "We commend
you for your efforts in not only promoting and sustaining very key and
important developments in Edo State but also,, promoting democracy and
democratic ethics. You are one leader that we appreciate and pray that
God will continue to sustain you in good health and may He continue to
guide your state and by the grace of God, He will reward you
abundantly even after leaving the office that you currently occupy.
"We are happy with you and I'm sure the people of Edo State are very
happy to have a true and committed nationalist, a pan -Nigerian as
their governor. We are in Edo State to condole the Royal Majesty and
through the Comrade Governor to the people of Edo State on the
transition unto glory of our dear mother, Queen Esther Erediauwa.
"From what I was told, she was the head of the harem of His Royal
Majesty. That therefore underscores how important she has been in the
palace and in the Kingdom of Benin. She has been a very good supporter
and comforter of the Royal Majesty. That is why I felt I should come
and condole him and the people of Edo State over this loss".
Responding, Governor Adams Oshiomhole described the Speaker as a role
model worthy of emulation by all Nigerians.
According to the governor, "You have been guided by the overall
objective of a parliament that legislates and carries out its
oversight function for the purpose of ensuring there is good
governance for the common man. You speak in unison on issues that
affect national interest. It is a fact looking at national
institutions that you are a presiding officer who has been able to
make a statement not by mouth but by action that the National Assembly
is truly one regardless of the political party.
"Let me say that in Edo State, our people admire you a lot for the
very effective leadership that you have provided to the House that has
a history of instability even when it was dominated by one political
party. I am sure most Nigerians admire your leadership style in which
you have carried everybody along in the House of Representatives. You
are a role model with rare leadership qualities needed by every
nation", he said.
The Speaker was joined on the visit by five members of the House of
Representatives from Edo State, including Samson Osagie, Rasaq Bello
Osagie among others.

"I EXPECT BOKO HARAM TO LAST ANOTHER 5 YEARS - JUNAID MOHAMMED

A member of the Northern Elders Forum, Dr. Junaid Mohammed has
dismissed as impossible claims by the Chief of Defence Staff, Air
Marshal Alex Badeh that the Boko Haram insurgency will be over by
April.
Mohammed in an interview with PUNCH said he envisioned the insurgency
lasting another five years.
His words: "I think the statement that Boko Haram insurgency will end
by April is rash. But I don't want to be too harsh because I don't
know the man (Badeh). If Ihejirika had made that statement, I would
have said it was an irresponsible statement. The new Chief of Defence
staff is not known to me and I haven't heard of his management style.
But I think it is a rash statement.
"Most military historians believe that when you confront an insurgency
such as the Boko Haram one and terrorism in the North-East, you have
to calculate at least 10 years within which to put it under control. I
expect the Boko Haram insurgency to last another five years or before
they can bring it to an end."
"Ihejirika and others had made such promises and up till now, they
have not been able to control Boko Haram. When you give a deadline and
you fail to achieve it, the responsible thing to do is to keep quiet,"
he said.

IBORI TO FINISH PRISON TERM IN UK TO AVOID PRESIDENTIAL PARDON SCANDAL

Highly placed sources in the United Kingdom's High Commission in Abuja
have revealed that imprisoned former Governor of Delta State, James
Ibori will serve out his remaining sentence in British custody. The
source said part of the rationale of British authority to compel Ibori
to serve out his sentence in the UK is to prevent a presidential
pardon type scandal which is speculated to occur if the former
Governor is transferred to Nigeria under a bi-lateral agreement
between the two nations.
The Source said, "We are not planning to allow Ibori be a beneficiary
of the exchange policy, it is not targeted at him. Our laws are very
strong on money laundering; the exchange programme does not cover such
people like Ibori.
"So, he will complete his prison terms in the UK as part of our own
contribution to your anti-corruption agenda.
"If he is brought to Nigeria, we are not sure if he would not be
pardoned as a result of pressure from some people."
The source also revealed that the Nigerian authorities ahd not
requested for Ibori to be returned to Nigeria.
"The Nigerian government has not made any request for the repatriation
of Ibori home to complete his jail terms."
Nigerian government officials are reportedly not keen on pushing for
any pardon for Ibori in order to serve as a deterrent to other corrupt
public office holders in the country.

TERRIBLE! HOW PARENTS LOCKED UP THEIR DAUGHTER FOR ALMOST 3 YEARS IN A CAGE LIKE RABBIT IN BAYELSA

Where she was kept would stir emotion even in a stone hearted being.
What came to the mind of many was why any parent would banish their
own child to such a despicable solitary confinement.
The grubby dungeon, located in front of her family apartment, was
built with carton board and roofing sheets ostensibly to ward off the
elements and gave it the semblance of a dwelling place. The less than
four feet high structure could be mistaken for cage for dog.
Sadly, this had been the abode of 16-year-old Blessing Olokumo in the
last two and a half years.
Blessing, a twin, whose little frame betrays her age, cuts the picture
of neglect and abandonment. Her parents might have locked her up in
the cage which had no window to keep her away from the public out of
shame or wanted her dead.
Blessing's condition is pathetic. Unlike her twin sister in senior
secondary school class 2, Blessing never had the opportunity of seeing
the four walls of a school due to her health challenge with the result
that she could only communicate in Isoko, her mother's native dialect.
Though the father is an indigene of Ayibabiri community in
Kolokuma-Opokuma local government area of Bayelsa State, the mother,
Binaese, is from Igbide in Isoko South local government area of Delta.
Sunday Vanguard learnt that though Blessing's was born normal, her
problem started about 13 years ago when she was aged three in Delta
State.
She was said to have suffered from convulsion, which was not properly
taken care of by her parents probably due to ignorance. The father was
then said to have acted against doctor's advice by forcefully taking
her away from the hospital where she was receiving treatment because
he could not afford the N15,000 medical bill.
The convulsion was said to have worsened over time due to poor
medical attention leading to her abnormal behaviour.
The ailment is also believed to be responsible for her retarded growth
when compared to her twin sister, a beautifully grown girl.
Although physically challenged kids like her deserve decent life, love
and adequate medical attention, in her case she was treated cruelly;
locked up in a cage lacking window for proper ventilation and light.
The place where she was confined for almost three years by her father
shares fence with a medical facility where she is now receiving
treatment.
Co-tenants, who could have notified the authorities on the girl's
plight, looked the way ostensibly for fear of incurring the wrath of
her father whose relation, Sunday Vanguard learnt, owned the house
they are living in.
Succour however came her way last weekend when a concerned native of
Okolobiri alerted the group, the Mary Slessor Twin Foundation, which
rescued her and took her to the Niger Delta University Teaching
Hospital, Okolobiri where she is receiving treatment.
When this reporter, on Thursday, visited what once served as her
home, it was discovered that a rubber carpet had been laid on the bare
floor with a view to making it look a little decent due to the public
interest generated after her predicament was reported.
A resident berated the girl's parents. "This is the height of man's
inhumanity to man, especially coming from one's own father. The girl
though is retarded doesn't deserve the treatment meted to her. Before
now, she used to walk freely around from her parents apartment to her
mother's kiosk by the roadside without disturbing anybody," the
resident said.
The girl, on admission at the teaching hospital courtesy of Mary
Slessor Twins Foundation, cut the picture of a six-year-old. Her
confinement and lack of care apparently left her malnourished, as
according to the doctor handling her case, "she is 16 year old but her
weight is like that of a five year old."
Acting President of the Foundation, Mr. Tonyon Ebitei Robert, said
she was locked up because she was defecating around the family house.
According to him, Blessing's father, who is also a twin and a security
official with the Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital,
Okolobiri, allegedly built the cage and locked up his daughter to keep
her away from the main house.
"She was kept like a rabbit. She was given food when it was available
and was allowed to sleep in her vomit, faeces, urine. She lost weight
and could have died," Robert said.
He explained that the group, known for its campaign against
maltreatment of twins, was contacted by concerned indigenes of
Okolobiri community where the Olokumo family resides.
Blessing, he said, was rushed to the teaching hospital where she is
being given medical treatment.
Though the father was not around when Sunday Vanguard visited as he
was said to have gone to Yenagoa for a verification exercise, the
mother of the girl was sighted at the hospital keeping her company.
The woman, who identified herself as Binaese, said the girl was locked
up because she was roaming about and disturbing other neighbours, a
claim that was dismissed by a resident who said the girl though has
health challenges hardly disturbed anybody.
Dr. Deji, who was attending to the girl when Sunday Vanguard visited
her, said: "We gathered that when she was three years, she started
having convulsion and the convulsion worsened over time and due to the
poor control of the convulsion she started having abnormal behaviour.
"About three years ago, the father decided to keep her in an enclosure
outside the house and, over time, she degenerated. She wasn't well
kept and her weight wasted. She is 16 years but her weight is like
that of a five-year-old child."
According to him, the girl is a bit reserved most likely as a result
of the trauma she may have undergone. The doctor went on: "There are
signs of obvious neglect over time. It is the case of a child having
seizure disorder which some people might call epilepsy, and was not
treated appropriately. She was not given adequate medical attention
and kept out of the house in a restricted environment and barely fed
which resulted in malnutrition.
"She is responding gradually to treatment and is a bit more interested
in her environment. When I first saw her, she refused my coming close
to her but she now obeys instructions." President of the Mary Slessor
Twins Foundation, Robert, gave kudos to the medical personnel
handling her case saying she has improved tremendously. According to
him, the group would lodge formal complaint with the police and the
welfare department of Bayelsa State Ministry of Women Affairs.
"Criminal charges of child abduction, inhuman treatment, child
molestation and failure to enroll the child for proper education will
be brought against the parents," he said.
Also, the Chief Nengi James Foundation, on Thursday, visited the girl
in hospital and made a cash donation to assist the Mary Slessor Twins
Foundation pay Blessing's medical bills.
Represented by the immediate past Secretary of the state chapter of
the Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO), Comrade Alagoa Morris, the
Chief Nengi James Foundation urged parents to cater for their kids no
matter the circumstances.

(PHOTOS) MEET THE GIRL WITH THE LONGEST TONGUE IN THE WORLD

Chanel Tapper, a student from California, USA, has the world's longest
tongue, measuring 9.75 cm (3.8 in), from tip to top lip. Her
lizard-like tongue is twice as long as the average, as long as the
world's largest cockroach, as wide as your palm, the same volume as a
quarter ponder hamburger and around the same length as an iPhone!!
Here what she told Guinness World Records about her record-breaking
body part in an interview:"I was eight and my mom and I were taking
pictures for Halloween. In one of the pictures we stuck our tongues
out. I noticed I had a long tongue when the pictures from Halloween
were printed and I saw it...but I guess it became apparent in middle
school when people started commenting on it. Why I stuck my tongue out
at people, I don't know... I'm goofy! But there are still some people
from back then that only remember me because of my tongue!"

MARY J. BLIGE'S FATHER STABBED THREE TIMES BY EX-LOVER

Mary J. Blige's father has been stabbed three times by his former
lover. The incident happened in his home yesterday, when he saw his
50-year old former lover letting the air out of his tires. Thomas
Blige, 63, confronted his ex-lover, but instead of replying him,
stabbed him three times including one on his neck.
The police were called to the scene at about 6.58am, Thursday morning,
where they found the victim along with the knife used in the attack in
his apartment. She has been charged with 'assault with intent murder'
and will be arraigned today in court. Before now, there have been
seven domestic violence complaints between the warring former lovers
since August 2013, and the lover has been warned to stay away from Mr
Blige.
Mr Blige is also said to be in a critical condition.

I'M PRETTY SURE APC WILL CHICKEN OUT OF THE ELECTION - PDP SPOKESMAN

Ruling Party spokesman, Chief Olisa Metuh has stated that he would
personally not be surprised if the main opposition party, All
Progressives Congress did not boycott the 2015 elections.
He spoke after the Independent National Electoral Commission released
the timetable for the elections.
His words: "We (PDP) are ready for the elections as shown by the
timetable released by the commission. We are sure of winning the
Presidential election and I can also tell you that we are going to win
more states.
"I'm not sure whether the opposition will not ask its members to
boycott the elections because they know that they are going to lose.
But as for us, we are sure of winning more states and more seats at
both the National Assembly and Houses of Assembly."
