COMMUNITY PROTESTS RELOCATION OF IMO STATE POLY

Mixed reactions have continued to trail the community protest that led
to indefinite postponement of the matriculation ceremony of Imo State
Polytechnic, Umuagwo in Ohaji-Egbema Local Government Area.
The host community of the institution last Friday staged a violence
protest against the school management over the state Government's
proposed plan to relocate the institution to Orlu, Orlu Local
Government Area of the state.
The protest, which led to the postponement of the scheduled
matriculation ceremony slated for January 24, 2014, took the visitors
and the school management by surprise, as members of the community
numbering over 1000 besieged the school demanding that the school
should not be relocated. The protesters, who destroyed tables, chairs
and other items, also demanded the immediate removal of the school
Rector, Rev. Fr Wence Nmadu.
Some indigenes, who spoke to National Mirror in Owerri, reacted
differently to the violence protest that sent parents, guardians and
friends including the lecturers and students who came to witness the
occasion scampering for safety following the development.
