participate in the proposed Enugu State local government election
scheduled to hold on January 11, 2014.
The APC has subsequently directed all the party councillorship and
chairmanship candidates, as well as its supporters to boycott the
election.
Announcing the decision yesterday after a crucial meeting of the party
caucus and other stakeholders in Awka, the APC governorship candidate
in the last election, Dr. Chris Ngige, said the proposed local
government poll was already skewed and fundamentally faulty.
Ngige, who was accompanied by other party officials, said: "One of the
reasons for the decision to boycott the poll is that the Anambra State
Independent Electoral Commission, ASIEC, is not yet sure of which of
the three paraded voters registers it will use in the election.
"It is of the view that ASIEC has already planned a charade election
since the voters register has neither been displayed nor given to
political parties to identify."
Ngige, however, said that the party had reviewed the November 16, 2013
governorship election and praised Anambra voters for their restraint
in the exercise.
He said: "All local government chairmanship and councillorship
aspirants are, therefore, directed not to participate in the election.
The party has henceforth withdrawn in all processes leading to the
election.
