THE ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY IN AWKA, ANAMBRA STATE; A TRUE PICTURE - Ejemgwa Isaac Chukwuebuka

Entertainment according to the English dictionary is a show put together for the sole purpose of enjoyment or amusement of others. It encompasses all activities that brings about relaxation in body and mind of people.

The entertainment industry in a developing country like Nigeria is a very broad one, and has gone so far that it has being widely accepted outside the country borders and beyond.

Nigeria entertainment industry has lots of activities in it, including Music, Movie, Photography,Cinema, modelling, acting, Singing, Pageantry, Talent Hunt shows, Dancing, comedy, disc jockey, entertainment blogs, and even the unregarded ones like News, Entertainment Journalism and so many and counting.

Narrowing this situation down to Awka and Anambra state, Nigeria in general, its not a wave making industry. The entertainment industry in Anambra state is still at a growing stage after so many years of trying to stabilise it and hardwork.

Now you will ask the main reason for this, Is it that Awka doesnt have good music producers?, ask of Chympablo, Is it that awka doesnt have well equipped studios? visit Aroma in awka, Is it that Awka doesnt have good musicians/ melodious singers? we got iceberg, G cee, Toubey name them. Is it that awka got no crazy funny comedians? visit Mc Gentle, talk of Prince neche, mallam dagogo, SP, Legendary Bameyii. Awka is got lots and even more, you get the best of Dj's in Awka, the likes of Dj ontop, Dj drew, Dj jerry, Awka has it all.

Every single year, more than 30 different modelling competitions are held in awka, the likes of MR&MRS INSTITUTION, MBFA,MBGA,APL, and counting. Everyone, every individual is trying in his/her best capacity to build the the entertainment industry in awka then what then is the problem.

The People, yes the people are the main problem, the ordinary populace, the ordinary man, yes you, am talking about you, you reading this article now, when last did you attend a music show, a comedy show, a pagentry event, a festival in awka?. The ordinary Awka man/woman doesn't give entertainment industry in awka a chance, believing its a doom sector that has nothing to offer. We all have to change the mindset we have towards it. Take a time out and go out there, seat and watch and support this guys who are working so hard to make things better.

We cry everyday that the government is not doing anything for the people, for the state, how do we expect project to take place, when there is fund. Bear it in mind that Anambra state has no money-generating mineral resource under it earth crust, why dont we all come out any support this thriving entertainment industry in awka, in any way we can, Nollywood generates lots of income to the federal republic, we could start our own little entertainment village here in Anambra state. All we got do is change our mind set and embrace our home entertainers.

And also i will urge our state government, led by His Excellency Gov. Willie Obiano (WIW) to please also help the entertainment industry in Awka by adding it to his Willie is Working (WIW) agenda in the state.

In my last remarks i would like to encourage the entertainers in the state to continue to work harder to get better and improve themselves.
