recently when some overzealous policemen bent on enforcing Islamic law
smashed and destroyed over 240,000 bottles of beer, in what many
believed was a 'smokescreen' crackdown on behaviour seen as anti Islam
in the state. A source told newsmen that the bottles were seized from
trucks coming into the city in the last couple of weeks by officials
of Hisbah, which regularly enforces the strict Islamic law (Sharia) in
governor Kwakwanso's troubled state.
Another report from AFP stated that Sharia enforcers (Hisbah)
destroyed over 240,000 bottles of beer along with over 8,000 litres of
a local brew called Burukutu.

ReplyDeleteIn the North, the sale of Alcohol is forbidden in compliance with their laws as enacted in the Penal Code.. That's why Muslims prefer to smoke than drink. (The law is what the govt says it is) The beer companies can't sue. But the funny part is that Muslims drink very well, I wonder where they hide it (probably in their kettles).
ReplyDeleteDat na true talk! Gatty.
