NEW "BOYONA' ARMY DIVISION TAKES OVER OPERATION AGANIST BOKO HARAM

From Monday August 19th, a newly formed Nigerian Army division
dedicated to counter-insurgency will take over all operations against
the Boko Haram insurgency in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa States. This
group will take over the command and assets of the JTF which recorded
notable success in dislodging the boko haram sect from their camps in
hills and forests in North-Eastern Nigeria since the declaration of
the State of Emergency three months ago in those states.
Code-name "BOYONA" is an acronym for the Borno, Yobe and Adamawa and
comprises of probably 8,000 infantry men who are expected to be the
arrow head of a more efficient onslaught against the boko haram group
and will also focus on doing the gritty job of securing the boundary
region of north-east Nigeria that shares borders with Niger Republic,
Chad & Cameroon. Those countries border regions have served as a
launch pad for terrorist operations against Nigeriafor the group in
the past.
Civilian casualties will definitely drop with a likely increase inthe
terrorist body count as the division will employ a more systematic
approach than what was obtainable under the JTF.
