Atiku Abubakar Donates N75M For Polio Eradication
Atiku, who was the guest speaker at the dinner and dance ball organised by the Rotary International at Muson Centre, Lagos, linked the increase in polio cases in Nigeria to illiteracy and unwholesome religious beliefs which, according to him, had madeit difficult for the disease to be eradicated.
The former vice president however urged the Federal Ministry of Health to do more in the area of information dissemination, as lives of many future leaders in the country were being destroyed by the disease, especially in the northern part of the country.

CCTV punch attacks: Nigerian Michael Ayoade jailed for 4 years
Michael attacked female student, Daniella Montieth, in 2011, without any provocation. She was taken to the hospital with a broken tooth after he hit her in the side of the head at Plaistow tube station. Then on November 13th 2012 he jogged up behind a 16-year-old girl in the High Street and punched her in the head.The teenager fell to the ground, breaking three of her teeth. (pictured above)
Ayoade was arrested shortly after the attack on the teenager.
During his trial, Ayoade said the teenager had "looked at him in a rude way" and that he could not go through the rest of the day having taken "an insult from a little person like that".
Ayoade was yesterday sentenced to four years in prison for the attack on the teenager and 19 months for punching the student. The two sentences will run concurrently.

Prof. Ilochi Okafor's Son-In-Law Escapes From Kidnappers
The son-in-law to a former university Vice-Chancellor Unizik, Akwa who
was a kidnap victim last November escaped from kidnappers who posed as
patients in a hospital.
Dr. John Onyiuke, who is the Chief Medical Director (CMD) at Beke
Memorial Hospital, a private clinic located in Nimo, Anambra State and
married to one of Prof. Ilochi Okafor's daughters, exclusively told
National Daily that one of his abductors posed as patient while
waiting for him to resume duty Monday morning.
"This morning by 8: 30am, one of my staff called me that there was a
patient waiting for me and because I live very close to the hospital.
When I got to the clinic, I saw a young man who was being checked up;
one of the nurses was taking his blood pressure. I was informed that
he was the patient waiting for me. So I went into my office upstairs
and started arranging my table as it was Monday morning. After waiting
for like three minutes, I saw the patient rush into my office, closed
the door and told me that I was under arrest. He rushed as my trousers
and held me and while I was trying to resist him, another of his
accomplice came inside with a Ghana-Must-Go bag and brought out an
AK-47 rifle. The quietly took me out of the hospital and put me inside
the booth of their car, a Toyota Corolla and started driving towards
Abagana," he said.
Onyiuke escaped by jumping out of the boot of the car when he fiddled
with the boot and it gave way.
"As they were driving out of the hospital, I was fiddling with the
booth and it opened. I jumped out and ran into the bush. Three persons
carried out the operation; two guys and a driver. I later went and
reported the incident at the Abagana Police Station," he said.
The Professor of Law, a two-time Attorney General of the old Anambra
State was said to have regained his freedom after a substantial ransom
was allegedly paid by his family.
As of the time of filing this report, Dr. Onyiuke, a graduate of the
Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH) had gone back to
work and attending to patients.
Onyiuke's father-in-law, Prof. Ilochi Okafor, was kidnapped by
unidentified gunmen from his home while preparing for church and held
for a week before being released in November 2012.

Unizik; has laid an example for other lecturers and head of depts. In
our school. He today paid the school fees of 10ten final year Indigent
students...=N=20,100 each. We appraise his kind gesture and thank him.

Ghanaian Footballer Arrested For Stabbing Wife!
Accra Police says Paintsil stabbed his wife after a quarrel over money. His wife, Richlove Paintsil, jumped the wall of their home into their neighbors home to escape the assault. John allegedly followed her into the neighbors house and assaulted the people who tried to stop him from hitting his wife.
Paintsil was later picked up by the police after neighbors called them .
This is sad news considering the fact that another African Sports Star, Oscar Pritorius is in court for premeditated murder. Please, let's stop the violence

The acting General Manager of Delta State
Tourism Board, Philo Nkem Ajufo, has been
detained by the EFCC in Abuja for conniving
with her boss, Richard Mofe Damijo (RMD is
the commissioner in charge of the ministry),
to embezzle N50 million from the state
Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
It was learned that Mr. Mofe Damijo issued a
check to the tourism board in the name of its
acting GM, Ms. Ajufo. She in turn reportedly
deposited the sum into her First Bank private
account with account number (3006131619)
operated under her name, Nkem Philo
Ajufo…(she and Mr. Mofe Damijo subsequently shared the money.) An EFCC source who confirmed Ms. Ajufo's arrest said "As we talk, the Delta State Tourism GM, one Mrs. Nkem Ajufo, is been held in our headquarters here in Abuja over her involvement in the N50 million fraud. Her boss, Mr. Richard Mofe Damijo, is not left out…."
Meanwhile, Mr. Mofe Damijo has denied
knowledge of the money during the budget
defense exercise but he is yet to appear
before the EFCC, Sahara reporters reports.
Richard Mofe Damijo was one of the notable
Nigerians that attended the Grammy awards
2013.

Breaking News: Nollywood Veteran Actor, Justus Esiri Is Dead
Esiri has passed away.
Born in November 1942 in Delta State, the 70 year old actor who found widespread acclaim for his role on the iconic Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) TV "Village Headmaster" was one of the pioneers who took the leap and helped lay the foundation for the Nollywood that we know and love today. His official profile on the Africa Movie Academy
Awards website notes that "the veteran actor has won several awards for his acting exploits
including THEMA Awards, NTA Honours Awards and AMAA Awards. Esiri star of acclaimed productions like Wasted Years, Forever, The Prize, Six Demons, Corridors of Power, Last Knight, The Tyrant, The investigation, The Ghost is reputed to
have performed on more TV Network drama
programmes than any Nigerian actor."
In 2012, he was conferred with the national
honours of the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON).
According to reports, the Thespian died during the late hours of Tuesday 19th February 2013. He is survived by his wife Omiete and children including Nigerian music star Dr Sid (Sidney Esiri).

"We had it at the back of our mind to win right from the training camp in Portugal. We were driven to write our names in gold, make Nigerians happy and with hard work, God made it possible for us," Mikel told MTNFootball.com
"There was no point in the competition that I, for one, felt we won't win it. I told you before we went for the tournament that there are no small teams in football again. I knew it won't be an easy task for us, so we prepared for it and kept believing in ourselves even when things looked difficult," Mikel added.
Mikel further added that the team had moved on from winning the Nations Cup,stating that the next target is the Confederations Cup and also qualifying for the Nations Cup.
"The next competition we will feature in now is the Confederations Cup, it will be nice to win that and add to my medals' collection. It will be another history for Nigeria and the continent, but getting ticket to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil is very important too," said Mikel.
