SPORT ZONE: "Our next target is to win the Confederations Cup" – Mikel

Super Eagles midfielder,John Obi Mikel has set his sights on winning the FIFA Confederations Cup,which comes up in June,2013 and would be staged in Brazil.
Nigeria by virtue of winning the 2013 African
Nations Cup,will represent Africa,at competition which features champions of their respective continents in the World.

Mikel said that he never doubted Nigeria's
capabilities to win the Nations Cup in South
Africa,adding that they had the belief.

"We had it at the back of our mind to win right from the training camp in Portugal. We were driven to write our names in gold, make Nigerians happy and with hard work, God made it possible for us," Mikel told MTNFootball.com

"There was no point in the competition that I, for one, felt we won't win it. I told you before we went for the tournament that there are no small teams in football again. I knew it won't be an easy task for us, so we prepared for it and kept believing in ourselves even when things looked difficult," Mikel added.

Mikel further added that the team had moved on from winning the Nations Cup,stating that the next target is the Confederations Cup and also qualifying for the Nations Cup.

"The next competition we will feature in now is the Confederations Cup, it will be nice to win that and add to my medals' collection. It will be another history for Nigeria and the continent, but getting ticket to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil is very important too," said Mikel.

The Super Eagles have been grouped with
Uruguay,Spain and Tahiti,with the first two
countries making it to the semi-finals of the
competition.
