"ACTIVITIES OF RUMOUR-MONGERS & DETRACTORS….." Says Comr. Eyisi
As a journalist, I was sent to cover the executive meeting of the students union Government, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. The meeting was yet to commence while the students’ executive members can be seen in twos and threes discussing vital issues-probably political matters. As others were seen still converging at the venue; Unizik SUG Secretariat christened "Giant House". Shortly, there was absolute silence as though the heavenly angels just arrived. I peeped through the window, behold, it was Noble and his entourage. His driver pulled the sparkling white official vehicle to a halt. Noble alighted looking exceptionally elegant in white suit with his Italian black shoe polished to gloss. He had only two books in his hands, "Dairy…..something"-"vampires Dairy" I thought haven trying to read the name of the book from afar. And another fat white book. He took the landscaped path way into the complex with his entourage, as there was exchange of hand waving, bowing from the boys and genuflection from girls between him and the students. No doubt, students love him. When he finally settled on his throne at the presidential conference room, SUG Giant house unizik, I was able to see the books clearly- "Dairy of a unizik Babe" by Martin Beck Nworah, not vampires Dairy and "Americanah" by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. He opened the latter and started reading as other executive members settle for the meeting – "a voracious reader! He is." I confirmed what a sun newspaper correspondent, Franklin Onwubiko told me. Minutes later, the meeting commenced, and at the end, I had a chat with him.
His Excellency, Comrade Noble Eyisi is his name and his case is that of a determined and courageous young man that knows what he wants and what would be good for others. Now, he has taken a legal bold step to achieve it. He is the President, Students’ Union Government, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. Noble is a 300 level student of Political science of unizik. He was born on 28th August into the family of Chief Ifeanyi and Professor Joy Eyisi from Adazi-Ani in Anaocha local government area of Anambra State. This tall handsome young man had his primary education at Benbee primary school, Awka, before he proceeded to Bishop Crowther Seminary, Awka, where he served as Deputy Senior Prefect.
Noble told me his ordeal and journey into politics. According to him, it was funny because his parents and some top politicians never concurred with him to thread that path. His mother, Prof Joy Eyisi; an internationally acclaimed Professor of English who has authored over 100 books and was the head, Department of English and Literature, unizik, vehemently maintained on academic success and not politics. His father, Chief Ifeanyi Eyisi to an extent became considerate. And on the part of role models; those who are "worthy of emulation"- top notch politicians in Anambra state, Noble chuckles negatively and has this to say, "To my amazement, even the big names which I don’t want to mention. A-list politicians in Anambra state whom I look up to, and met them in their offices one after the other, all bluntly discouraged me with security and academics as reasons."
All these kept his vision and mission into politics fluctuating, but Noble’s spirit of motivation never dwindled even a bit. What kept him going was something else- that kind of burning desire from the depth of a solid soldier’s heart.
On what spurred Noble into politics and kept his desire burning so high, he paused, dropped his face downwards and smiled in response, saying, "My big brother, Hon. Rex Eyisi."
Has Noble any challenge(s) as SUG President? If yes, how does he overcomes it? He rolled his eye balls, stared into my own balls and dimmed them in response, "yes! Ranging from my parents refusal and to the activities of rumour-mongers, detractors and back-stabbers. But I thank God for giving me the fortitude to surmount all these. Today, I enjoy the maximum support of my parents especially when students started commending me for my achievements this few weeks in office." Meanwhile, Noble together with other elected executives withstood all constraints and cut down the price of transportation to anywhere within unizik from N40-N30 to N20. He also signed into law and ensured that the SUG secretariat – Giant House is now open 24hours a day and 7days a week. He is currently slashing down the price of food within unizik from N450-N250 to N150 amongst other developmental strides.
On his advice to young people, Noble made it clear that determination leads to success no matter who might discourage you. "They should also have faith in God who maketh all things possible." He added. Noble likes playing piano, reading and serving God as he hates propaganda, disappointment and laxity.
