THE ROOT OF CORRUPTION IN OUR SOCIETY

In our society of today, we find it very easy to condemn
national/state governments for corrupt practices and a lot of
unlawful act. But within us or around us the little institutions or
small circular position we handle that is where you can find
corruption to the highest level.
Be that as it may, we the youths always find it very simple to
shout that our national government is very corrupt but what of
the governments at our own level. The little leadership position
we the youths handle we find it as an opportunity to be rich
overnight, we take it as the avenue to arrive and be like others.
We have baptised bribery to be lobbying when someone bribed
his way out he will tell you that it is just lobbying! Thus there is
nothing like bribery again, then corrupt practices have been
termed as custom and norm, let me do as others have been
doing and thus there is nothing different it is part of the system.
Furthermore, Government in our youthful stage is now a place
where nobody is asking question, everybody is fearing to ask
questions, if you ask then people will say oh! Is it because he is
not benefiting from the sharing kpalava or the national cake!
May be is because his pocket is dry and he is looking for an
avenue to fill it up! Some even will term it that there is no smoke
without fire! So the best thing is to keep quite for the practices
to keep going on! And if you are not careful they will launch an
operation pull him down so as to destroy your hard
earn reputation and then portray you as Judas. So for you to
avoid being called bad names then is better you seal your mouth
and join the eating train.
When I look at our anti-corruption agencies saying that they are
fighting corruption at the national/state level, this days I laugh
because they are not fighting corruption at the root, you cannot
stop and act without first of all going to the root of the matter.
Let me state it categorically that no corrupt politician was born
corrupt or enters office and become corrupt immediately! It
started somewhere! From that little position he handled in the
past!
I want to challenge our anti-graft agencies that they are just
scratching at the surface of corruption, if they are actually
serious and ready to fight corruption let them start at those
minor leadership position especially among we the youths. If
EFCC and ICPC is ready to fight corruption in Nigeria I hereby
challenge them to enter the various institution of learning in this
nation be it Polytechnics, colleges of education and universities!
Let them probe the students leadership at various level I
challenge EFCC and ICPC to probe all the Students Union
Governments popularly known as SUG in our various
institutions! Let them probe every students bodies even beyond
the universities! Let them probe that faculty/departmental
associations! If we are actually ready to fight corruption. Let us
start at the root, that SUG, faculty, departmental leader at any
level who engage in corrupt act be it in any sector of
government, if he excel to be a leader at national level, he will
upgrade to more corrupt act.
Ipso facto, ipso juria, nobody is perfect even I that is speaking is
not perfect. That is why mostly I love quoting my dear Vice
Chancellor Prof J.E Ahaneku a great pathologist, who will
normally tell you that there is what we call a pathological
disease which if not cured it will become generational. In Igbo
land we normally say that "ife ojoo gba afo obulu omenala".
That is what it is now turning into at our various level of
governments even at youth level because every wrong is now
turning to norm!
In conclusion, I hereby challenge our anti-corruption agencies
that if they are serious to wage war against corruption let them
come down to the root and do a perfect job at every sector!
This is part of my contributions to national building.
