The students union president Comr. Ibeh Nonso cico has sacked all the employees of the directorate of transport. The DOT former employees had worked in that department for years and some for a decade. The president posited that his reasons for disengaging the employees were that:
1 most of them are not our students
2 to encourage accountability being that he cannot tell how much that is been generated from the transport sector.
3 to replace the sacked persons with our students thereby creating jobs for our students.
4 to have an accurate number of buses plying our roads daily.
Whereas the proposed persons to replace the individuals has led to the criticism of the presidents by some students. They held that more than 90 percent of the selected persons to replace the sacked persons are from his faculty and that does not encourage unionism which SUG stands for. Secondly, the president's action has not been seen as a positive approach towards restructuring the transport sector owing to the fact that since the disengagements of those persons handling it, no money is coming from that department again and that is like hindering the actions of the union elected officials.
Few weeks past, the president initiated a seven seater tricycle scheme which he called special intervention scheme and mandated the drivers to be collecting twenty naira per drop from each person that enters their keke. The students that pleaded for their identity not to be diclosed also held that the tricyclists don't pay heed to the instruction of the president and they still collect thirty-naira like every other keke persons. They also held that the activities of this drivers are not regulated because those who are supposed to be incharge of the regulation had been laid off

ReplyDeleteGetting rid of them has been long overdue. I've been waiting for the SUG president to curtail their actions cos at least 90% of the DOT officials are corrupt, rude and can be quite violent. I hope the TTF and other funds that's supposed to be in the SUG's coffers won't be misappropraited. Good move by CICO. Still don't regret my vote for him.
ReplyDeleteWELL DONE MY FRIEND@ PHILIP OKICHE. THANKS FOR THE COMMENT

ReplyDelete@anon 12:19, I bet u can't even handle d job of a course rep talk more of d president. I see no reason y u shud be attacking an innocent soul who is trying to make life bearable for us all in skool. I'd advice u to refrain from using obscured languages on him. Though I didn't vote for him and haven't met him in person, I can rightly say that he is doing a hell of a good job.
