BE CAREFUL:MARCH 3,2000 BY MARTIN BECK NWORAH
It got me thinking;really hard. There was no handsets,no social media and less than 500 hundred of the entire population in this country had e-mails. It go me thinking. Miley Cyrus was not "twerking" on the television screens and 'k','brb','LOL' which are lazy ways of saying many things was not in existence. Mark and his facebook boys were probably thinking of completing high school. It go me thinking. There was no internet scam, few cars on the roads, people cherished seeing eye to eye and our values was at the apogee. People were to some extent, contented with being ordinary Nigerians and enjoyed listening to FRCN and watching NTA;gullible as we were,we accepted everything. It got me thinking. Churches were not rampant and miracles was on the low. People worked hard to solve their problems through legitimate means rather than wait for heavenly manna...it got me thinking.
I was less than some years old. I had no e-mails,no blackberry,no laptop,no printer,no nothing. I was not in the university,I was less handsome then...*laughs* and I was contented with mummy's everyday gift of food and quarter bottle of Gold Spot. So today, the year 2000 really got me thinking.
Fast forward 14 years from then and you will get now. The society is getting more sophisticated than ever. Thousands of people all over the world will read this piece with or without my knowledge. If you refuse to change, the society will either change or leave you behind in your darkness. The ladies are so glorified that today, almost every part of a lady's body can be "bought" in the "open market". It is an era of secrecy and pretence...a very deadly one at that and it got me thinking.
14 years in posterity, where will all these trends be?
Surely they will be replaced, but the human being,in many instances, remain. And that was the area that got me thinking.
So if nothing really lasts forever, why the hatred and killings? Be careful. If table phones can be replaced today by handsets in less than 10 years from 2002,its a sure sign that even that your flawless body you sell today, will go to waste tomorrow...why mess up your life? Be careful.
Be careful. Nothing lasts forever and its true. Trends come and go,but the individual in many instances, remain. Be careful not to ignite a fire you won't be able to quench during your life time. Be careful. Nothing happened on March 3,2000. Its a symbolic date to remind us that between then and now, forces greater than us have shaped and have continued to shape the world. Be careful.
And when we must have succeeded in getting to the Promised Land, you shall pass me a glass of water and thank God for the gift for grace for the race.
