effort in writing this open letter. I believe this letter is bourne
out of your desire for improved state of affair of our students' Union
Government.
There is an adage that says, "that evil persist not because of bad
people but because the good ones refused to talk"
I thank God this letter came from a students and not those serving in
the Government. Because if it is from a serving personnel, some will
see it as politics.
Now we can comfortably discuss this issues and proffer solutions to
save our union.
I want us to understand that Union is not a group of people(elected
and appointed)
rather the students' union Government is for every students. All
regular students are members (ordinary) of the government. So every
students has the right to address issue bordering on the affairs of
the SUG or demanding explanations from those who are serving them.
I must also include that students have also contributed to the rots in
the students' Union. From Election period till during governance. We
refused to elect our leaders based on merit, ideas, antecedents and
what the aspirants will offer rather we have chosen our leaders
because they are handsome, pretty, classmates, faculty mate or because
we were induced financially.
We have also believed that our duty ends after election. We are to
demand that things are done right, demand for our welfare, ask
questions and contribute to the governance. We have reduced students'
Union Govt to SUG week. This is quite appalling. We have our rights as
members students' union Government.
We should endeavour to have a copy of the Constitution of the SUG.
Also, the SUG president may have failed, but I want to state here that
SUG is not just the president in as much as I join in asking the
President to respond to the letter. All officers should also live up
to expectation. If other officers are working, the President don't
have any other option than to work and especially if students live to
their duty as the led.
The President should respond, I must submit.
In conclusion, I am happy and I believe that there is light at the end
of the tunnel. I am asking the students to live up to their duties to
save our union especially as we prepare for this years' election. Have
a reason for supporting a candidate. Always ask questions before
casting your vote or supporting a candidate. We can save our union.
