CAN IT BE TAUGHT IN SCHOOL? BY MARTIN BECK NWORAH

We go through life without any manuals safe for the lessons learnt
along the way. Many say that it is better to learn from the mistakes
of others but I believe that some lessons are learnt by personal
mistakes. We're being subjected to the classrooms for a greater part
of our youthful life, many times without our permission. We're educated
or taught how best to change and manage the world around us. That is
good and I'm very much grateful to the present system that we have in
the world today.
But my wish is that real life lessons should be brought into the
classrooms if it can. We are not taught how to manage stress or make
the right choices in life. Our teachers don't tell us whether to fall
in love or how best to hate someone. We don't learn how to maintain
relationships and forgive one another. We are not taught how to
persevere and pursue our dreams with all our heart. We are simply
instructed on how best to acquire a skill and get a job...not a life.
It brings me near tears when I see graduates struggling to meet up
with their commitments. It pains most especially if your whole hope is
dependent on what you've learnt in school.
So I ask,can these be taught in schools? Can our teachers be more like
inspirational speakers who will not only teach but instruct us on true
life lessons that will help us to become better individuals. It is my
wish that everyone who works hard for his life should enjoy the fruits
of his labour. We need more role models as teachers. We need teachers
who will inspire their students to attain the highest definition of
their talents. This is very much achievable and I know our teachers
will pay attention to these. Help us to become better individuals so
that we can take care of you in your later days. Discipline us. Teach
us. Help us. Instruct us. Make us. We are the reason why you have a
job, don't make us regret it. Till we get to the Promised Land,I shall
be waiting for when you will pass me a glass of water and thank God
for the gift of grace for the race.
