OKOROCHA CONVERTS APGA SECRETARIAT TO APC HEADQUATERS

As the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, has concluded plans to
file a suit to challenge the defection of Imo State governor, Rochas
Okorocha, to the All Progressives Congress, APC, the governor has
finally converted former APGA secretariat in the state to APC
headquarters.
The governor, who was at the secretariat for a political meeting said
that the South East geo-political zone has better prospects if APC
takes the day in the Nigerian politics. But Alhaji Sanni Shinkafi, the
National Secretary of APGA, said shortly after attending INEC/
political parties meeting in Abuja on Monday that APGA would challenge
Okorocha's defection to APC.
Okorocha defected to the APC while celebrating his two years in office
in May, saying, "the APC has the potential to push the state nearer to
the "federal eye." Shinkafi explained that it was "morally wrong" for
an incumbent governor to dump a political party under which platform
he came to power.
However, Okorocha explained that his defection to the APC was to
salvage the state and the South East geo-political zone from the
misrule of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, pointing out that the
zone had suffered marginalisation as the ruling PDP has no plans for
Ndigbo.
According to him, "the PDP is fully settled because there is no Igbo
man as president, no Igbo man as Vice President, no Igbo man as
speaker, no Igbo man as Senate President and no Igbo man as Chairman
of the party."
He however said that at the inception of the APC, Igbos were given
eight key positions at the national level of the party, ranging from
the National Organizing Secretary to the zonal Vice chairman and
expressed hope that the South East may have the opportunity to produce
the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria under the platform of
the APC.
Governor Okorocha described the APC as a child of circumstance which
emerged following the noticeable failure of the PDP in the leadership
of the country. "The APC came as a result of noticeable failure that
exists in the rank and file of PDP as a party," he stressed, assuring
that the party will give the state and nation the most needed
dividends of democracy and urged all to join the train of progressives
to move the nation forward.
He also disclosed plans by the party to set up an interim state
executive of five members in order to fast-track activities of the
party pending when the congress holds. Present at the meeting were the
interim chairman of the party, Prince Marshal Okafor-Anyanwu, members
representing Owerri and Ideato Federal Constituencies in the House of
Representatives, Hon. Ezenwa Onyewuchi and Dr Eddie Mbadiwe
respectively.
Others are the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Prof. Anthony
Anwuka, the Chief of Staff and Commissioner for Special Duties, Sir
jude Ejiogu, Barr. Uche Onyeagocha, among many chieftains of the APC
in the state.
