WE ARE FULLY READY FOR ANAMBRA POLL, SAYS IG

The Inspector-General of Police, Mr Mohammed Abubakar, on Wednesday assured the people of Anambra of adequate security during the Nov. 16 governorship election.
Abubakar gave...
the assurance in Awka at a forum of the Independent
National Electoral Commission (INEC) with political parties,
candidates and stakeholders.
According to Abubakar, DIG Philemon Leha, in charge of operations,
will supervise security during the poll and report directly to him.
"There will be a joint security operation room at the Police
Headquarters, Awka, where we will receive information on security
across the state," he said.
The police boss said that INEC had all the identification details of
all the police officers deployed for the election.
Abubakar said that two battalions of fully armed policemen would be
deployed to each of the three senatorial districts of the state apart
from police officers deployed to polling units.
According to him, in each of the zones, a commissioner of police and
an assistant-inspector-general of police will take charge as well as
security agents from the State Security Serrvice.
"We have also deployed troops from the Nigerian Army for the three
senatorial districts with more than 10 armoured personnel carriers and
other vehicles while two helicopters would be provided by the Nigerian
Air Force.
"The marine police and Navy will take charge of the water areas," Abubakar said.
The police boss warned government officials against monitoring the
election without permission of INEC.
"It is expected that candidates should not use their escorts or
orderly; anyone caught and arrested would be dismissed.
"If you break the law this time, we shall break you; if you have no
business with the election, stay at home.
"Any item that can be used to harm anybody should not be brought out
on the election day," he warned. (NAN)
