President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday named Mr. M'fon Akpan as the Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS). He is to replace Mrs. Ifueko Omoigui-Okauru.
In a letter to Senate President David Mark yesterday, Jonathan urged...
the Senate to screen and confirm the nominee as the substantive RIRS
Executive Chairman.
The President's request was predicated on Section 11(a) of the Federal
Inland Revenue Act 2007 which stipulates that the Executive Chairman
shall be appointed by the President, subject to the confirmation of
the Senate.
In another letter, Jonathan sent the names of new board of the Niger
Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to the Senate for screening and
confirmation as required by Section 2(1) of the NDDC Act 2000.
The constitution of the new board followed the expiration of the
tenure of the former board, which elapsed in September.
In the new board, Senator Bassey Ewa-Henshaw (Cross River State) was
named as the new chairman while Mr. Bassey Dan- Abia (Akwa Ibom State)
was nominated as the new Managing Director.
