Lay faithfuls sang and dance for different parishes down to the
cathedral, it marked the solemnity of christ the king procession, In
igbo language it is called "ofalla for christ"
Which was instituted by pope Pius the eleventh instituted in 1925.
Christians especially catholics use this medium to profess christ as their king.
The Corpus christi feast is in doctrine suppose to be celebrated in
February/march, due to the unpredictable weather in the country, our
procession here in Nigeria was shifted till the end of the year, where
the climate can be predicted.
After the procession all participants gathered at the cathedral and
the solemnity was concluded with the benediction by the Bishop.
it was fun filled event yesterday,i sang,danced skelewu and kukere yesterday in awka.....
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed the Corpus Christi procession here in lag supervised by the Arch Bishop of Lagos, His Lordship, Alfred Adewale Martins. He really did justice to this years feast. Also yesterday marked the end of the Year of Faith instituted by his Holiness, Pope Benedict XVI (Emeritus)
