NANS CONDEMNS LINGERING ASUU STRIKE

The National Association of Nigerian Students has disowned the ongoing
strike action embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of
Universities.
NANS made their position known at a press briefing in Kano where they
stated that certain demands by ASUU were "unrealistic and un
-implementable"
The National President of the Union, Yinka Gbadebo at the briefing
appealed to University lecturers to call off their nearly 4 months old
strike and resume negotiations with the Federal Government in the
general interest of Nigeria's educational sectors.
Yinka stressed "in the history of ASUU strike, no government has ever
responded positively the way President Goodluck Jonathan's
administration has done and I believe strongly this gesture should be
reciprocated for the sake of harmony.
Mr. Gbadebo who was flanked by representatives of student leaders from
over 50 Nigerian universities accused the leadership of ASUU of
evading a meeting with the leadership of the student's union that
would have been an "interface meeting to chat the way forward"
"In as much as we sympathise with ASUU over the predicament that
forced the industrial action, millions of Nigerian students are simply
tired of staying at home and hence appeal to call it off and resume
negotiations immediately".

  1. Seriously, I really don't understand why people don't understand the reason for the strike. Asuu has led everybody to believe the government is the reason for the strike, but if we really look at it, are their demands worth keeping the students at home? Greed is the watch word in Nigeria, and everybody wants to have a share of the National Cake not minding how they get it or who they affect in the process. Yes, we all know our leaders are corrupt, but, are we also goin to be corrupt like them to change the country? Asuu's 400billion Naira demand is ridiculous, I hear most of my lecturers say that they want to earn like oil workers (absurd), but I keep asking myself, why they just don't resign and apply for a job in an oil company instead of make us sit at home because they want their salaries to be increased. An average lecturer earns upto 200k a month aside from the money they get from "sorting" and books they sell. Tell me, isn't that enough for them? Most of them don't even come to class, most of them don't even know how to lecture. Lecturers that take delight in the failure of students, and the ones that want sex for Marks, yet they want the government to increase their salaries. God punish all of them. Stupid bastards that call themselves our lecturers. Students, wake up and realize that everybody they find their belle. The lecturers are not on strike because they care about you or want to improve education, if they really care, they would find a better way to get the governments attention, rather than do it at the detriments of we Students. ASUU is a greedy body, and if I am the president, I would sack every lecturer on strike now, and employ people who are ready to do the job, afterall, there are people out there that would do the job better, and it would reduce unemployment a little, since these stupid lecturers are not ready to work. I wish there was a forum were we could al gather as students and discuss this matter, so that y'all could understand that ASUU is the major problem, not the government. Rubbish. #tapout

  2. @Anon 8:42, First of all, the NANS president is a fool cos he has definitely been bribed and he's not my leader. I happened to watch him on Channels TV and it was crystal clear that the FG offered him something. If you have educated parents, ask them of the University system back then and how it is now, you'd realise that Our Education sector has failed. My dad told me that in his days, many foreigners used to come and study in our Country, we had very good "teachers", students didn't need stove or gas cylinders cos good food was provided by the university for all, yet the fees were still cheap and affordable, after completing ur program, you were sure of a job. But the reverse seems to be the case now. How much from our budget is allocated to education annually? I'm tired of the strike but this is the only way the Nigerian govt will listen.

  3. My anonymous, it would interest u to note that Nigeria is below 1% while liberia that finished war some years back is 2% and ghana is 8.02%. Do u know stove is used aas bunsen burner in the university laboratory? Let's leave all that. Nigeria 2013 budget for all 39 red universities, poly, coe and schools is 2.6bn usd meanwhile in other countries that amount is not upto the budget for a single school..e.g Penn state university 2013 budget is 4.42b usd to mentionbut a few. The statistics are on net for ur easy access. I am a huge fan of GEJ but do u knw he was d Vp of Nigeria wen dat agreement was made and as a matter of fact he was head of the committee that signed the agreement. Ask urself y even as president he cannot implement it if not insincerity in the polity. I will be the happiest person on earth if the strike is called off but its wise the issue is settled once and for all. God save our one and only Nigeria.

  4. You people make me laugh hysterically! Where was ASUU when the rot started? My lab doesn't use a kerosene stove o. Any university that uses a kerosene stoves in labs doesn't do it because bunsen burners can't be afforded by them, trust me! You are definitly not listening...times and people keep changing. ASUU lecturers want fat paychecks like politicians and that is not reasonable. You with the 'university educated parents', hope they also told you how committed lecturers were back then? Tell yourselves the truth joor! Do you know how many years ago the rot started? ASUU now wants to perform magic? I laugh! Am not a fan of GEJ, I hate him with passion but on this ASUU issue am with him. This so called agreement wasn't signed by his administration, yet he listened and did something. Check the history of ASUU strike, this is the most significant response they've gotten but greed won't let them go back to work! My dear zikites, Greed is the watchword. Please do ur research well before speaking. Like I was ask can somebody explain what happens to internally generated revenue? The dues we pay etc...

  5. @philip, I think its unreasonable for you to compare education back then with education now. Fewer people attended the university...it was a previledge back then. One of my lecturers said the were just 13 in number in his class back then. How can you compare that against the atleast 120 students we have per level?

  6. philip u ar talking as if is only ur dad dat attended uni, mind u,we ar sufferin here bcos of dis greedy asuu people and u ar tellin us wot happend in 50's,sharp ur mouth ooo.

  7. Anonymous 8.42pm u've said it all oooo! Its an insult ση our sensibilities for anybody to blame FG for ASUU strike. Have u heard ASUU's demands? No group/body should be allowed to hold this nation at ransom.
I mean, have u ever had α 65-yr-old lecturer? I guess u know how boring & monotonous their classes can be.. But ASUU is asking for 70yrs retirement age. What kind of an industrious mind would even imagine retiring at 70? At 50, if u're still living ση salary, consider urself α failure.
The problem is that out lecturers are lazy *period* I say that without any form of apologies. Between, thank God for anonymousity before them go use my gp play ball. Heheheeheheheehehe

  9. Lolz don't mind Phillips the guy is not serious I don't really think he is tired if staying at home. ASUU dey fight for their own selfish gain it became clear to the students after 90 days of strike and still counting. If I see Fage walahi talahi I will shoot him dead.

  10. I don't blame them o! I blame the weakling called jonathan. Sack all them and employ fresh people that will very grateful. Unemployment will definitely reduce a tad...As if to be a lecturer is by force. Mtcheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeew

  11. It's almost like you people are trying to absolve the FG and blame it on ASUU. Presently, Resident Doctors are also on strike. Do u know how many patients have died since they started the strike? In most developed countries, there are strike actions but I've never heard of Medical Doctors going on strike. The only good thing Nigeria is good at is churning out un-employable graduates. ASUU's demand is simple - implement the agreement. Will the FG say they accepted the terms of that settlement under duress. Believe me, I'm totally with ASUU on this strike.

  12. Please philip shut the fuck up if you lack what to say. The collapse in the education system was a gradual process, it didn't happen at once! While it was happening where was ASUU? The annual budget they get what is it used for? FG is not blameless but its majorly ASUU's fault!!! The want to right all their wrongs all of a sudden at our detriment? No o! Not possible, it was gradually destroyed, it will gradually be restored.

  14. For your information you misinformed people, if the FG doesn't implement the agreement they had with ASUU, all FG and State Universities would increase their fees. Except you want a unizik that pays 200 to 300,000 per session. Either way ASUU will have their way. The question I expected you to ask me was...if the FG finally decides to implement the agreement, how are we sure that it will be used to sanitise the system,

  15. This philip guy u r such a big fool for lack of a better name to call you! That u even thought of comparing the 50's with now shows how much of a retard you are. Did FG stay quiet on the whole issue? They offered something reasonable and instead of ASUU to take n start working with it, they are wasting my precious time!

  16. I am happy we are all educated people.. The decay started not upto 20 years ago. Asuu was formed nt too long ago also to help address such issues and dey all under the labour union. However it is resolved, I hope it doesn't re occur and affect generations after us.

  17. On that note, @Padre Pio for always giving an un-biased and insightful contribution @PRO pls can you cover the scandal that our aviation minister, Mrs. Stella Oduah is currently in. It has something to do with two expensive armoured cars she bought for herself

  18. I'm so ashamed and disappointed in what we call Nigerian students today. Imagine able bodied youths with warm flowing blood relax backs on their dad's couch and type and update rubbishes without action.

Even that NANS president is lucky I don't know him in person he would have been chilling out at an "undisclosed" hospital by now after he must have undergone multiple plastic surgeries.

Ooh I miss people like Comrade oshiomhole as at when he was labour chairman. People who poked hand into obasanjo's dreadful eyes no matter how deadly he seemed.

This NANS president doesn't seem to understand he's our own labour chairman shey.. How many times has he condemned. He kept condemning and passing vote of no confidence as if the FG bloody cares. He even threatened nation wide protest and operation stand still. Today he's here condemning again.

Why won't the students be noticed in this! tell me assuming we kept to that operation stand still and came out in mass this NANS idiot will not be at it condemning again, rather recommend more strategies. Useless thing. Maybe it's even a private university fool that's even the NANS president.
Woe betide him if we meet for bad area like okpunor. Even FG go see am call of strike.
