ASUU/NAU CHAIRMAN - UNIZIK MUST COMPLY TO STRIKE

Prof. Ike Odimegwu of the department of philosophy, Chairman ASUU/NAU
made this known in a congress of student union and association leaders
held yesterday, he said that the ASUU strike is a suit that has to be
resolved between the union and the Federal Govt. It has NOTHING to do
with the administrative protocol of UNIZIK, she is a federal
university and must comply to the concession of the National Body of
ASUU, he told www.uniziksugnews.com and Faculty heads in a congress
held:
he categorically stated that any department that writes exam:
"be sure to re-write because we'll cancel it or unizik will not resume
after the strike" he also said that "there will not be any lecture,
exams (even post-Ume), university meeting whatsoever until it is
called off. No staff is going to be allowed into the school except
permitted by me and any defaulter will be penalised for any anti-asuu
activity".

The National Executive Council of ASUU met at Olabisi Onabanjo
University, Ago Iwoye, to consider the referendum from all branches on
whether, following the failure of ll means to use another round of
strike action to compel the FG to implement the agreement reached with
the union in October 2009.
The reason for the strike:
1. Funding requirement for revitalisation ofNigerian Universities
2. FG assistance to state universities
3.Progressive increase of annual budgetary allocation to education to
26% between 2009-2020
4.Earned Academic allowances
5. Amendment of the pension/retirement act of academics on the
professional cadre from 65 to 70years.
6. Transfer of FG landed property to universities
7. Setting up of research and development unit by companies operating
in Nigeria and basic amenities to our classrooms and Labs.

STRIKE MANDATE
1. Do not teach any course whatsoever
2. Do not attend any statutory meeting: departmental, faculty board,
senate congregation, council etc
3. Do not establish or supervise any exam at any level.
4. Do not agree in supervision of project/thesis at any level.
Justice and truth are on our side. Remain resolute.

UNIZIK PURPORTED STRIKE: I am been pushed by the recent reactions/comments from different quarters an group over the UNIZIK going on strike to comment and register my opinion.....More especially as I am one of the core apostles of Non-interruption of Academic Calendar under any disguise. That could inform my decision into convening the cerebration of UNIZIK 10years of renunciation of cultism and 8years of stable academic calendar in NOV. 2010 when i was the president of the Students' union. Beyond using the forum to campaign and flag off plant a tree programme, My team also invited alot of good willed men and women to celebrate excellence in UNIZIK. The Union raised N1, 000, 000 from that function.
Having said that, I wish to inform all that this moment is very critical and a moment that must be carefully and diplomatically studied and handled otherwise, just like time-bomb, the center of UNIZIK will be blown and trust me, things will fall deeply apart.
What informed my statement is that at a time like this all and sundry must join hand (irrespective of our political inclination, sentiments, aspiration and desire) with the University management to show the world that UNIZIK is Unique, classic, united and can pull through thicks and thins undivided. IT IS FOR THE BENEFIT OF ALL.
A culture is defined as people's way of life which unites and made them known. UNIZIK has a culture of Stable Academic Calendar for 11years now and are known for that.......It must be sustained at all cost. Within the 11years, there were no ASUU and yet UNIZIK has soared high.....and in the spirit of patriotism and comradeship, Prof Egboka resuscitated it.....As a president, I was present and witnessed the first call by ASUU-Zonal officers on VC to help resurrect ASUU.
Without sounding insensitive to ideals and noble cause ASUU is fighting for especially as FG has shown inhuman disposition to their demand, I want to say that STRIKING could be the best option but definitely NOT the best timing especially for UNIZIK.
ASUU-NAU, which is the product of Prof Egboka's large heart disposition should be shown nobility enough by listening to the clarion call by VC to allow exams hold after which they go join others striking (ie if it has not been called off before exams finish).
It is a patriotic and a fatherly call and it should be seen as such. VC has nothing to GAIN OR LOSE if UNIZIK goes on strike.....and infact as a matter of fact, He'll have every thing to gain because, it will give him time to rest well and spend time with the family.....But NO; He decided not to "utilize the opportunity" the strike will bring to him. WHY? Because, 1. HE LOVES UNIZIK 2. HE LOVES US HIS STUDENTS/CHILDREN 3. HE WANTS TO UPHOLD OUR NON-STRIKING CULTURE 4. HE LOVES HARDWORK......the list can go on...........OUR PROFESSORS & LECTURERS SHOULD FOLLOW THE STEPS OF VC AND SEE FROM THE WAY HE SEES.....VC HAS NO CHILD STILL IN UNIVERSITY OR IN UNIZIK (Infact all his children are graduates and doing very well in their different capacities); so one cannot say its because his children are in UNIZIK...
Having said all these, I call on the present leadership of SUG, NASU, NASSU, other UNIZIK trade unions, stakeholders and students to stand behind VC and uphold NO STRIKE TILL AFTER EXAMS. ASSU-NAU should be persuaded to see reasons and ensure UNIZIK is not thrown back at the dark ages of strikes and over-stay students. OUR COLLECTIVE QUEST TO RISE ABOVE OUR PERSONAL INTEREST IS NEEDED AT THIS TIME AND IT WILL MARK US OUT WHEN WE SHOW THIS STRENGTH. SAY NO TO STRIKE IN UNIZIK>>> I'm a GIANT, WE ARE GIANTS......BECAUSE WE ARE 10,000 MILES AHEAD OF OUR PEERS. LETS LIVE THE DREAM.
