I never wanted to write on the above topic in spite of the many requests and offers I got because of the eyebrows it will raise. But with what I have experienced in the past two weeks, I believe it is imperative I write on it for our mothers and would-be mothers to be very careful in the decisions they take and how they influence the life of their kids. Even if you're not a mother or planning to be one, you can as well read this.
He whom the gods want to kill, they first make him go mad. Madness in this context simply means the person will be acting in manners that will call into question, the very essence of his upbringing and whether the parents did or are doing a good job in bringing the person up. A young man who stands in front of his elders and insults them, drags the dignity of his family and lineage to the dust. No matter how right you are, it is not a virtue to exchange words with your elders or make them appear stupid.
Mothers who achieve so much in their professional lives but fail to train their children to respect elders and have a good attitude towards people is a total failure. Any mother, no matter her social or academic status, who fails to give her kids a very good home training is a TOTAL FAILURE. It will be a different issue if the child refuses to learn; the mother or the parents will be exonerated from the child's stupidity.
Being in the University has afforded Martin Beck Nworah the opportunity of interacting with different individuals from diverse backgrounds and training. Social media also makes it easy for us to see people whose parents or probably, the society failed to put in their rightful place in the society. A lady who shows her pictures with her body contours or "backside" on full display surely deserves the pity of a nation. A young boy whose attitude never allows him to listen to positive advice from his superiors is indirectly calling his parents "fools".
No matter your standing in life, never fail to give your kids the required home training they need before stepping out into the bigger society. For young people who derive joy in insulting their parents(by their useless attitude) and calling into question their sanity, may God help you to retrace your steps before it becomes late.
And never forget;
