A Minna Magistrates' Court on Thursday sentenced a 19-year-old student, Usman Mohammed, to six months in prison for stealing a motorcycle.
The accused was arraigned on a two-count charge of joint act and theft.
The prosecutor, Insp. Ahmed Ali, told the court that one Aliyu Mairiga reported the matter at Tudun Wada police station on Feb. 19.
Ali said the complainant alleged that the accused and two others, now at large, jointly stole his Jincheng motorcyle valued at N100, 000 and took it to Sauka Kahuta area of Minna where he was arrested.
When the charge was read to the accused, he pleaded guilty and begged for leniency.
The prosecutor thereafter prayed the court to try him summarily in line with Section 157 of the Criminal Procedure.
Magistrate Sa'adatu Gambo sentenced Mohammed to six months in prison with the option of N30, 000 fine.
