Last weekend in AFCON is not one i'll forget in a hurry.I watched four nations cup quarter-finals,witnessed two impressive matches, one comeback that was stunning, and an ugly one which i termed the darkest AFCON history. After watching the match between Equatorial Guinea and Tunisia,i couldn't less but remember the match between Argentina and England in the 1986 world cup quarter final, where Maradona's hand of God was witnessed and referee Ali Bin Nasser who happened to be from Tunisia refused to rule out the goal when England goalkeeper Peter Shilton came running to him,and even up to this day,Peter Shilton still calls Maradona 'A Cheat'.
After watching that match my friends asked me whether Equatorial Guinea deserved to go through and i couldn't answer yes or no, because looking at it from one perspective, the Tunisian players sought to spoil the game(which they later did)by wasting time and commiting cynical fouls, and while they were busy doing this, the hosts were busy creating chances. But no matter how you might want to twist or say this,Equatorial Guinea will never forget Javier Balboa for converting both the penalty and freekick, while soccer fans will always remember this match and the referee for giving a clearly soft penalty and a late freekick to Equatorial Guinea, one which has already been termed by most football pundits as the darkest AFCON history.
Nice one.
