I believe men who will tell me that they will take me to the Promised Land, but they don't know which way to go. They have a thousand and one ideas on how best to get there hence we will continue to explore and improve on the ideas till we get the one that will lead us to the Promised Land. My politician will have the ways...not necessarily the way.
That is my type of politician.
I don't need a man who will promise me heaven here on earth. I need a man who will promise heaven and tell me to get ready for hell. The idea behind it is quite simple. As human beings,we are culpable and easily welcome the idea of a messiah or someone who can salvage our situation. Someone who can take our own destiny into his own hands and rescue us instead of us working hard to rescue ourselves. This has led to the multiplication of professional politicians in this nation. I am not against promising bright future;I am against promising me a bright future when you know(and I know) you don't even know how to get to that future.
My politician will know the ways...not necessarily the way. We shall improve and get better with what we have at hand. Nigerian politicians tell us that Rome was built in a day because that is what we want to hear and that is what will help them to win their election. But deep in their heart and our own hearts,we know that it takes so much to get there. I need a man who won't promise to take me there over night. I need a man who will tell me that he has means or ways of taking me there...but we will start with what we have now and get better.
Until I see that type of politician,I refuse to be a part and parcel of this system. Till we get to the Promised Land,I shall be waiting for when you will pass me a glass of water and thank God for the gift of grace for the race.
