A couple lost their 25 year old son in a fire at home two weeks ago.
Their son who had passed all his MBA exams with distinction,
had gone home to share his good news with his parents in person before starting a lucrative job in the City he had been head hunted for.
He had lunch with his dad at home and decided to go to bed to rest.
His dad had asked him to wait for his mum who was rushing home from work so could share the good news about his job with her in person.
He decided to take a nap while waiting for his mum. His father then left for work.
A short time later their neighbours called 911 when they saw black smoke coming out of the house.
Unfortunately, the 25 years old died in the house.
After several days of investigation the fire was determined
to have been "caused by the laptop resting on the bed".
The cooling fan did not get air to cool down the computer's heated parts and caused the fire.
He did not even wake up to get out of the bed. He died of breathing in carbon monoxide emitted from the burning laptop.
Many of us, and especially our sons & daughters use our laptops while in bed for movies, games, surfing the internet & fall asleep with the laptops still on & plugged into the mains.
The risk is not only high but real.
Please let us make it a rule not to use laptops in or on top of our beds with blankets and pillows around.
Please educate as many folks, young and old when ever you can.
Life is very precious.
This simple precautionary message may save some lives, somewhere!
