UNIZIK UDERGRADUATE CHALLENGES: ASUU WITH A MILLION DOLLAR QUESTION BY UGONNA UGOCHUKWU

A million-dollar question for ASUU Distinguished ASUU faithfuls, Now
let us assume that the federal government (FG) is the reason for the
prolonged industrial strike action whose negotiations has always ended
in a deadlock.
Let us assume that the FG is nonchalant, recalcitrant, disingenuous,
retrogressive and obdurate; no doubt. Let us assume that the FG does
not 'give a damn' about the crumbling education system in Nigeria.
…and conclusively, let us assume that the FG has gone haywire. Now, my
million-dollar question is this; "is it wise for ASUU to go mad too,
together with the FG on this issue by continuing the on-going strike,
thereby assisting them (FG) to dig a deeper grave for the epileptic
education system in Nigeria?"
Let he who is without sin, cast the first stone! I rest my case.

  1. And since when mR pro did strike action become madness? D real question should have been why are the students seating at home and waiting for asuu to fight for them. Its just overbearing of the asuu to fight for Us.

  2. ASUU is the main cause of the decay in the education sector. Nigerian universities get the highest funding in africa yet they are far from the best in africa. What about the IGR of the universities? What about the imposition of half-baked textbooks on students? What about the lecturers doing two or three lecturing jobs? How come all they do is teach what they were taught, they don't research, they don't add value to the society, how many of them have been able to register a patent. The problem is that most of them joined the universities because of money and not passion to add knowledge. In simple tense. If you don't like a job working condition, please resign.

    1. Hmmm you seem to rely on an bogus mode of payment recognised only in the official gazette of our beloved nation. That remuneration basis is facade it doesn't apply in d real world. Lecturers got paid lump sum the last time I.e for the 4 months strike or so in 2009. And like one of the many lecturers in my department said this is a period to even earn more through fellowship and research at local and foreign institutions. The real question I am reiterating is why are students seating at home. Seating here meaning lying down

  4. Anonymous 8:30am ur arguments are unfounded..... Asuu struggle isn't madness let's not be heretic. If u call it madness den one mad person will v to give way for d other and bet me, asuu will nt bend for fg. Its our struggle too. Students in fct are going on a month rag day to raise funds and all we in the east knw hw to do is argue and relax. In dis case I wish I were an egyptian..

Asuu is fighting for just cause. The fight is towards putting the academic community in order.
FGN is very nonchalant on this matter. the agreement btw Asuu and FGN should be honored. Ghana experienced a 2 years back off b4 d change in its education sector. I advice Nigerian students to find something to keep themselves busy. I cant afford to continue receiving lectures under d trees in the faculty of edu of unizik. our faculty building has been stagnant for years now. Asuu is fighting for a just cause.

  6. I av heard some anonymous view but it goes without gain saying that evils that men do live and trail them. Not that I am bragging about my school or anything but sale or compulsion of hand outs isn't our experience and the I can mention a bulk of my lecturers who have international acclaimed impact. They didn't tell us we but we knew we were privileged to have them.they taught with so much vigor that one could av easily assumed teaching was only wat they do.but believe me type this name on google and see the answer Sessay ahmadu, charles ukeje, funso adesola, okwechime iwebunor, akin iwilade to mention but four in just my department at OAU ife. The truth is let Fg pay what need be paid and see to proper utilization of this resources. This is not to say that there aren't however some no good lecturers but the good ones far supercede the bad eggs. You can tell from the massive amount of public university lecturers who hold per time appointment at this acclaimed private universities.

  11. Please lets be be realistic. Who is sanitizing who. ASUU is a very currupt body on its own. The way I see it No one is fighting FG is relaxed. Every Nigerian system is currupt starting from the association of Lecturers
