Manchester United to victory over Liverpool on Wednesday night, with
the England international now having reached 14 million likes on his
official Facebook page.
The 27-year-old was handed the captain's armband for the encounter
with Liverpool, which Manchester United won courtesy of a solitary
goal from Javier Hernandez to confirm their passage into the next
round of the Capital One Cup.
Rooney posted on Facebook this morningto reveal his satisfaction at
achieving a win against the Anfield club, and was greeted by more
positive news when he returned from training.
The Manchester United striker appeared to be overwhelmed by the amount
of fans to have liked his official account, and was quick to express
his thanks to all those to have shown their support.
He said: "Just got home from training, checked my Facebook and
realised I've reached 14 million likes! Thanks to everyone of you,
really appreciate your support!"
Rooney's rise to 14 million comes after a fine spell of goalscoring
form, having found the net four times in three matches prior to the
defeat of Liverpool.
He will have the opportunity to further increase his tally when
Manchester United host West Brom at Old Trafford on Saturday
afternoon.
