fails to materialise, according to the Daily Mail.
With Rooney seemingly set on a switch away from Manchester United,
Chelsea have emergedas the front runner to secure his services but
United are reluctant to let him go to one of their major rivals.
However, at the right price those reservations could be overcome.
The newspaper says that Arsenal are prepared to meet Rooney's salary
demands – said to be inexcess of £240,000 a week – and can match or
better Chelsea's existing bid of around £26 million which United
rejected.
But with Arsenal also eagerly pursuing Luis Suarezit seems that they
will only have the resources to sign one of the two, meaning that
unless Chelsea increase their offer – which it seems they will shortly
– Rooney could start the season at Old Trafford.
