VICTOR OSUAGWU SWORN-IN AS LAGOS ACTORS GUILD CHAIRMAN

As the famous actor and comic star, Victor Osuagwu took an oath of
office on Monday, June 17, as the new Chairman of the Actors Guild of
Nigeria (AGN), Lagos State Chapter, expectations were high from
stakeholders in the industry alongside up and coming acts who believe
in his ability to reposition the troubled guild. Osuagwu was declared
winner by the Actors Guild National Electoral Committee (AGNEC),
sitting in Lagos, after polling a total of 80 votes ahead of Don
Pedro's 69, in a keenly contested election.
After several days of campaign, Osuagwu went to battle on Saturday,
June 15, at Surulere Local Government Secretariat, where actors were
screened and revalidated members of the guild converged to seek a
successor to the then outgoing chairman, Emeka Rising.
Shortly after the inauguration, which was witnessed by notable members
of the guild, including Ibinabo Fiberesima, Ejike Asiegbu, Emeka
Enyiocha, National Secretary of the guild, Abubakar Yakubu, among
others, elated Osuagwu expressed joy and further affirmed his
readiness to rebrand and reposition the guild.
"It was a very free and fair election. As you can see, I've already
held my first meeting with other members of my executive. My first
target is to unite all aggrieved members and also make sure that
members who have not been attending meetings start to attend our
meetings. To me, it is a new dawn for the guild. I've also sent out
people to negotiate for an office, so that we can have our own
secretariat," the Theatre Art graduate of the University of
Port-Harcourt, Rivers State, said.
