I'LL REVOLUTIONISE EDUCATION - GOV. PETER OBI

Mr. Peter Obi, said yesterday that the people of Anambra will witness
a revolution in education and other sectors of the economy before the
end of his administration.

Speaking during the flag-off of the presentation of N10 million to
each of the 253 public secondary schools in the state at the Women
Development Centre, Awka, Governor Obi said the state executive
council has also approved N6.5 billion for infrastructural development
in public schools.

The governor said having jointly rehabilitated the schools handed over
to the original missionary owners successfully, the state government
had begun the infrastructural development of public schools, adding
that with what government had planned, Anambra schools will compete
with any secondary school in Nigeria.

The N10 million to each school, which amounts to N2.53 billion for the
253 schools, will be handed over to the principals of the affected
schools and the money would be managed by seven–member committees that
would include chairmen of Parents/Teachers Associations, traditional
rulers, presidents-general of the town unions, among others, for
proper accountability.

The governor, who presented the cheques to the first set of 21 schools
from the three senatorial zones of the state, warned that any
principal found wanting in the utilization of the money willbe dealt
with accordingly.

According to Obi, part of the N6.5 billion approved for schools in the
state is to be used to procure buses for all secondary schools by end
of the year.
