"Gbam!", the plantain tree sounded as it hit the floor. I quickly but carefully cut the bunch of plantain off the tree as my aunt stood behind me, reminding me that the sap would condemn my clothes if it touched them. "Ok, go and keep the machete while I take the plantain to the backyard", she said, after I had successfully cut the plantain without staining my clothes. I watched her as she lifted the bunch of planrtain and headed for the backyard, and then I turned to go.
As I turned, I saw Captain, our half-foreign half-local dog, lying down. I did as if to hit him with the machete and he stood and ran. Not thinking, I followed him in hot pursuit, the machete raised high in the air. With a fence before him and me coming from behind with a machete, Captain knew he was cornered.
Sensing that the end was near for him, he started making some really violent noises. Now normally, I would have backed out at this point, but I just kept standing there, making threatening moves towards it. Before I could say "Jack", he had rushed at me madly, giving me just enough time to dive out of the way for him to pass through. Smiling, I stood up and dusted my clothes. And as I walked away, I bore a lesson in mind.
MORAL:
Whenever you feel you've been cornered in life and everything is over, do not fail to put up that one last fight. Who knows? It just might be what would get you through.
