GOV. OKOROCHA DISGRACED

Arequiem mass organised for the late Socrates of the Supreme Court, Justice Chukwudifu Oputa at his country home in Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State was disrupted yesterday, when the first son of the former erudite judge, Charles Oputa, a.k.a Charley Boy prevented Governor Rochas Okorocha from paying tribute to his father.

Eye witnesses said that the mass which was conducted by the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Rt Rev. Matthew Hassan Kukah at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Oguta, went on smoothly until Okorocha was permitted by the Bishop to pay his tribute to the fallen judge.

However, Chief Okorocha, was stopped midway into his speech, by Charley Boy who was visibly infruiated with Kukah for granting the governor the permission to speak. He walked up angrily to the altar and snatched the micro-phone from the governor, to the embarrassment of all the dignitaries present. It was a disgrace to the governor.

Among eminent Nigerians present at the church service included representative of President Goodluck Jonathan, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, Governors Willie Obiano (Anambra), Theodore Orji (Abia); the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Chief Emeka Ihedioha and former governors of Anambra State, Senator Chris Ngige and Mr Peter Obi respectively.

Also present, were the former governor of Imo State, Ikedi Ohakim,, Senator Uche Chukwumerije and the Minister of Labour, Chief Emeka Wogu, the state Police Commsiioner, Almajid Ali and the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, for Oguta, Ikembuchukwu Abugu.

The intervention of Bishop Kukah could not assuage Charly Boy’s anger as he insisted that no politician would take advantage of his father’s burial to score “cheap political” goals. He insisted that the Governor should not speak at the event.

However, obviously embarrassed by Charley Boy’s action, the Governor and members his entourage hurriedly left the church service mid -way, despite entreaties from the officiating Bishop Kuka for them to stay on.

It was gathered that Charly Boy’s action followed a recent statement by Government House, Owerri, to the effect that the Oputa family was given N20 million to assist it in the burial arrangements.

Sources told Saturday Vanguard, however, that “the family never received a dime from either Okorocha or the state government, not to talk of the alleged N20 million said to have been made available to them,’’ as reported by a section of the media.

Earlier in his sermon, Bishop who lauded the virtues of Justice Oputa, stressed that “to tolerate a son like Charley Boy by a man of late Justice Oputa’s reputation, is a measure of the greatness of the man.”

He called on Nigerians to stand up in defence of justice and equity, adding that late Oputa had serious liking for the concept of justice and equity during his life time.

”Oputa before he died, was worried about the quality of Nigerian lawyers and judges because he believed in the judiciary as the last hope of the nation. Today, his legacies are beyond his immediate family,” Bishop Kuka said

Meanwhile, the state government has described the incident that played out at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Oguta, as “ugly and regrettable.”

According to a statement by the Seniour Special Assistant, SSA, Media, to Governor Okorocha, Mr Sam Onwuemodo, “It is highly regrettable that the son of the late Justice, Mr Charles Emeka Oputa, aka, Charly Boy, threw caution to the wind and turned the church service into a political theatre that saw him acting or playing out the script he drafted in Abuja with some Imo politicians, who have remained cowed by the overwhelming popularity of Governor Rochas Okorocha.”

Onwuemeodo insisted that the state government made “substantial financial input and also organized a special day of tributes for the late Justice Oputa at the expense of state government with Charly Boy also present with other members of the family.

”We condemn that ugly incident and also wish to advise politicians from the state to stop heating up the polity over power since God is the giver of power. In 2015, God will decide who will be governor of Imo State and when God decides that, there is nothing anybody can do about it.” He did not make to reference to the N20m said to have been given to the family. http://www.nairaland.com/1789901/charly-boy-disgraces-okorocha-oputas ——by @UC Browser

THANK U UNIZIK..... BY AGU DAVID

THANK YOU UNIZIK
It was five years ago wen I walked in thru Ifite gate of the University. I had my doubts_ d muddy untarred road(then) leadin 2 d school gate, n d rows of ancient unkept forests spread across d capus, didn't exactly
make d best of impressions on me(if u get my drift). So I had wondered if I hadn't made a terrible mistake. I wondered why I hadn't simply chosen Unilag(as I was comin frm Lag). Indeed, I wondered 'if anytin gud cud com out of Ifite'. As I mark my birthday 2moro, 5 years down d line, I hv com 2 discover dt chosin Unizik was 1 of d best decisions I've eva made.
Som time ago I took up a fight for d welfare n gud interests of d students. D consequences of dat gud fight, at a time, seemed so fierce as if it would consume me. But u rallied around me. All of u, d great zikites! In d end, it was a successful fight, cos our aims were achivd, our demands were granted, n u helped me survive d backlash from those who considered their toes stepped on. At a point I was nearly expelled 4 leadin dat jst fight, bt ur collective voices ensured my triumph. Som ppl think me a hero for dat, bt I tel u, u, d great zikites, r d real heros, cos u r d makers of a hero.
As I wait 2 mark my birthday 2moro, two months b4 I'm done wth my journey 2 Unizik, I'm filled wth nolstalgia. More aptly, I'm full of thnks 2 u all, my co-travellers(zikites), my ever faithful frnds, suporters, and even 2 those whose toes were stepped on, 4 letin me live.
4 carving out of me a person capable of honor, n 4 dat overwhelming respect u've continued 2 show me, I say THANK U UNIZIK.

THE COURT REINSTATE THE SUG PRESIDENT

The motion brought pursuant to order 2 rule 1,2 and 3(enforcement of fundamental Human right subject to section 36 of the 1999 constitution.

The Attorney General of the union on behalf of the suspended SUG president, filed a motion questioning the credibility and legality of the action of the house of representative toward his Excellency; The court which seated in the faculty of law identified some errors in the suit filed by the applicant but yet went on to give judgement in their favor. The judge who presided over the case categorically stated that its judgement was wrongly given in the sense that it was based on the pleadings of the Vice chancellor. Read below to get the rulings of the court.

The motion was not properly served by the Attorney General to the court. The president was suspended as a result of negligence of summon which simply means that he did not appear before the house when he was summoned. Thus because of the act stating if a person refuses to show up when being summoned the person will be suspended , he was suspended from the union which simply means that he was suspended as the President.

After the meeting with the Vice chancellor which was held on 20th of June 2014, he directed that the Attorney General(Hon Chisolu) should bring a motion for the house to grant the president fair hearing.

The Vice chancellor when he was visited by ME, THE PRO;CHIEF JUDGE;THE SPEAKER OF THE SRC and the ATTORNEY GENERAL on 23rd of June, also reiterated that the court should leave all the procedures for the sake of peace in the university and start the investigation afresh.

The court obeying the instruction from the university authority hereby grant the following prayer:

1 That based on the principle of natural law as provided in section 36 of the 1999 constitution the President shall be granted fair hearing

2 That the suspension of the the SUG president is hereby lifted based on natural justice.
3 That the house should resummon Ibe chukwunonso to appear before them again within the next seven days.
4 That Ibe Chukwunonso remain the SUG president of this great union.

From the preceding assertions of the court it is crystal clear that His excellency Comr. Ibe Chukwunonso still remains our President as we await the next disciplinary action the house will take in this matter.

EXPPOSED!!!

I came across this days ago but didnt really read meaning into it,
well at least till Don Jazzy replied.

Heres the fullwrite-up about what someone accuses Don Jazzy and his
Mavins of doing, the individual tells us what they think Dorobucci
means.

Read below and also see Don Jazzys response: -

WHAT IS DORO?

For ur information, DOROBUCCI is a freaking occult song >=). Let me
explain,Oluwa means God in Yoruba, Chineke Or Chi means God in Igbo.
Doro is also a name of a god Doro is a godmavins formula, DOROBUCCI is
just to praise their god. They produced the song Dorobucci in other to
achieve more Doro worshippers and thats why they put Dorojazzy,
Dorotiwa, Dorosid.

Now some people would change there original beautiful names from Oluwabisi to

Dorobisi, Chidinma to Dorodinma, Seun to Doroseun, some even behind
the occultic name e.g lil stunna Doroyinka.

Its freaking sad that we always forget to listen to lyrics of songs &
get their meaning before dancing to it.

THE TRUTH MUST BE TOLD! THERE IS NO MISING N6.2M FROM SUG ACCOUNT - SUG SECRETARY GENERAL,COMR.KELVIN ONYEBUCHI

THE TRUTH MUST BE TOLD! THERE IS NO MISING N6.2M FROM SUG ACCOUNT - SUG SECRETARY GENERAL,COMR.KELVIN ONYEBUCHI
Mr. Speaker and SRC ,where and how was the missing N6.2m generated and in which bank account ? As we know the school have not released funds for the union and the only source of fund for the union is coming from the TTF , now did the TTF generate N6.2m in how Many months ? I want to state emphatically clear that no money is missing , not even a kobo . If as alleged that Mr. President took a kobo from the SUG purse, then there was no possible way he could do that without my knowledge and that of the whole executive council especially the Financial secretary and the Treasurer. As the Secretary General of SUG , I stand to counter the SRC making them understand that if SUG had such money at her disposal, then believe me,UNIZIK BRAIN FACIO , the students symposium that awarded laptop, refrigerator and generator to the students could have awarded cars . I would have personally assured this . The same President SRC is Suspending is the same person that called the first ever SUG joint congress involving the three arms to discuss the way forward for our students and our great institution. SRC,my Question is this : why do you want to hamper the success of this administration with your politics? Although you people have the right to suspend whosoever you so wishes, also know that the union executives pledges their loyalty only to the students of unizik and not to the house [SRC].
This suspension saga only reminds me of the letter of summon by the SRC to the President which the President did not answer. The reason is this, before the SRC summoned the President, Mr. President and the Vice President had already fixed an appointment with AIRTEL,fighting for the success of the SUG week which is for the benefit of the whole genius zikites. This was explained to the house after they threatened to suspend the President, and yet they went ahead with their suspension. Now, I'm asking, who comes first, the entire students of unizik or some students of unizik in the SRC ? Even as this suspension still comes, why is it accompanied with a false rumour of mismanagement of funds to the extent of N6.2m by the President ?
Therefore,I appeal that the SRC revoke their unjustifiable suspension and every slanderous and libelous statements and actions because there was no N6.2m not to talk of being missing.
My number two question is to NAU Times. But before I continue,I must appreciate your efforts in keeping our student's informed. But why would a web blog which is still growing in the journalism world lack objectiveness which is a core pillar to the principles of journalism? Why would you make a political statement appear to be true even when we know the truth? Don't you know that there is a difference between 'someone stole' and someone was alleged to steal ? Please,it is about time we acted FOR THE LOVE OF UNIZIK and not to Kill achievement.

The Suspension Of The President From The Legal Perspective.

Wednesday 18th June, 2014, is a day that will forever remain green in the memory of Great Zikites. It was the day the Students' Representatives Council (the legislature) of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka purported to suspend Comrade Ibe Chukwunonso (the Executive President of UNIZIK's SUG) from office. The decision was reached because, the latter had failed twice, without justification to appear before the former which had summoned him to answer the allegations of embezzlement of The Union's funds levied against him.
In this article, I've chosen not to concern myself with the veracity of the allegations made against the SUG President, but will be solely concerned with examining the validity of the resolution of the SRC, legally speaking.
The Constitution of The SUG of UNIZIK in Section 78, makes provision for the process through which the President of the Union or any member of the Executive Council may be removed. A perusal of that section shows that the President may be impeached and not suspended. Indeed in keeping with the trite principle of law laid down in Alhaji Hashiru Matari v. Dangaladima, Jonah Onyebuchi Eze v. Federal Republic of Nigeria, and a plethora of other judicial authorities, a voyage through the entire gamut of the GROUND NORM of UNIZIK's legal system would show that resolution of the SRC to suspend Comrade Ibe Chukwunonso is unconstitutional.
The SRC seeks to justify its resolution in reference to the provisions of a purported Act of the SRC which conferred on it, the power to suspend any member of the Executive Council of the Union, who repeatedly fails to appear before it after being duly summoned.
With the greatest sense of respect to the SRC, I doubt the existence of any such Act. Be that as it may, even if such an Act were truly in existence, the President of the Union can't be punished legally under the rubrics of that purported Act. For by virtue of Section 18(2)(a) of the Constitution of SUG of UNIZIK, every member of the Union is entitled to fundamental rights enshrined in the 1999 Constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended in 2011. If this is the case, then Section 36(8) & (12) of the CFRN which is a constitutional declaration of the Principle of Legality under which no person can be legally punished for any act or omission save in accordance with the provisions of a written law which publicly denounces the given act or omission absolves the President of culpability; see the case of Ifegbu v. Federal Republic of Nigeria (2001) 3 NWLR [P.t 729] @ page 103.
The greater percentage of The Giants (ZIKITES) are unaware of the existence of the purported Act, assuming but not conceding that the said Act does exist. It thus follows that the resolution of the SRC suspending the President of the SUG is unconstitutional, illegal, and invalid for the afore stated reasons.

Yours in Service,

W/CUP UPDATE: NAIJA IN TROUBLE

AS Nigerians are yet to come to terms with the annoying goalless draw of the Eagles against Iran, officials of the team were left biting their fingers when Godfrey Oboabona was ruled out of the remaining World Cup matches by medics.

The defender who was wheeled out of the match against Iran and replaced by skipper Joseph Yobo was said to have sustained a big cut on his toe which makes it practically impossible for him to wear boots.

The sad news on Oboabona is coming at a time when there are fears of injury worries in the camp even as officials of the team deny their players are in good health.

Media Officer, Ben Alaiya confirmed that Oboabona had been ruled out but noted that Chief coach Keshi was still nursing hopes that the defender could still recover.

“Now, Oboabona and Gabriel Reuben are out of the games; Omeruo is just managing and we have as substitutes such players as Babatunde Michael, Michael Uchebo, Azubuike Egwuekwe and Kunle Odunlami. These are players we may field against Bosnia and
Argentina. We are in trouble”, a distraught member of the team said.

The source said that Omeruo received an injection on his thigh to enable him play against Iran on Monday.

The Super Eagles need an outright win against Bosnia who lost to Argentina 2-1 to nurse any ambition of not crashing out in the first round. Stephen Keshi had promised before the match against Iran that he was sure that Nigeria would do better than they did in South Africa by going beyond the first round of the World Cup. But the signs are ominous, danger is knocking on the door of the Eagles as many blame the technical crew for not selecting Nigeria’s best players for the World Cup in Brazil.

Gabriel probably joined the camp with injury and was retained till now where he is just a number in the team.

BREAKING NEWS......... COMR. IBEH CHUKWUNONSO SUSPENDED

The Students' Representative Council had yesterday 18th of June approved the suspension of the president of the students union Government Comr. Ibeh Chukwunonso Cico for two weeks.

The president of the students' union government was summoned by the house to come to the house and extricate himself from the accusations of financial misconduct levelled against him by the officials of the Directorate of Transport. The house before the ruling made instances when the president was summoned to come to the house but refuses to appear before them and that action is perceived to be looking down on the legislative arm of SUG which is fully empowered and backed by the constitution of the union to make laws. This time the president was not summoned alone but with the financial secretary of the union Comr Chukwu Kelechi, an invitation which the financial secretary honoured but the President refused to honour the summon without giving any excuse for his absence. The honourable members then referred to the act passed by the house that stipulates that whoever that is summoned by the legislative arm of the union and the person refuses to honour the summon the person shall be suspended for two weeks. The suspension of the President is strictly based on the negligence of the summon and misappropriation of the union's money.

Meanwhile the Vice president Hon. Agulefo Queen will take over from him immediately.
The house also held that all privileges he gets as the president should be taken away from him.

NYSC ONLY

Hello Prospective NYSC Corps Members........... Batch B 2014 would be off to camp in 2months time. So for the love I have for you all, I would be giving some tips from this post before you leave.
20 things you just cannot live without in camp except you intend on borrowing or stealing.
PHOTOCOPIES OF YOUR DOCUMENTS: just make up to 10-12 copies of every document required .
There would be photocopiers in camp at maami market but trust me , it is double the price and it saves time.
Statement of Result (Original and Photocopies),
School ID Card (Original and Photocopies)
COPIES OF PASSPORT PHOTOGRAPHS: This is very important.

From experience I would say you make up to 30. Reason being that you would need them at every registration point mostly. Then those of you who would likely redeploy , you would need more than others . It is always advisable to have extra copies of them too.
CALL UP LETTER: This is a vital part of camp and the only evidence that you are a corper (otondo) and you are not impersonating anyone. So if at all you even forget you luggage (lol) never forget this. Word of advice —-keep it like its your life, do not laminate it o.
I know someone who was sent back because she forgot hers and also someone who had to plead before his letter was collected because he laminated his own copy. So please avoid all these stress and make enough copies of this letter like 15.
STATIONERY: BIRO , PAPER , GLUE , TIPPET AND STAPLER :Yeah this saves time and lots of unnecessary begging. also do not forget to include pins in your stapler.
ROUND-NECKED WHITE T-SHIRTS : this is an essential outfit in camp in fact in most camps this is the only allowed cloth to be worn throughout your 3 weeks . Even to church , you might not be allowed to wear colored cloths. You would be given 2 pairs of white t-shirts at camp to just fulfill all righteousness which surely would never be your size especially our very slim and small otondo in size . So you can bring extra pairs.

TODAY'S DEVOTION

PROVOKING POSITIVE CHANGE

Memorise:
Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,
Ephesians 3:20

Read:
Matthew 15:21-28

21 Then Jesus went thence, and departed into the coasts of Tyre and Sidon.
22 And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou Son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil.
23 But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth after us.
24 But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
25 Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me.
26 But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it to dogs.
27 And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters' table.
28 Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.
Message

Change is one event that is constant in life. Change denotes movement from one state to another. There are two categories of change: positive and negative. Due to the fact that change can either be positive or negative, Africans would say: “Change is good for the poor but bad for the rich”. Change in life is constant, certain and inevitable. Sometimes, change in a certain direction can be provoked, prolonged, shortened, averted or delayed. In today’s reading, we are told of how a particular woman experienced positive change. She was a Canaanite woman. She had a daughter who was grievously vexed with a devil. She desired a positive change – recovery and wholeness for her daughter. Her expectation was almost dashed until she provoked positive change. This season, you will provoke positive change from the Most High God in Jesus’ Name.

From this story of the Canaanite woman, we can learn a few lessons. The first thing to note is that she cried for mercy. She told the Lord how things were with her. She did not pretend like some people do. In 2 Kings 2:19-22, the inhabitants of Jericho provoked positive change from the Most High when they confronted Elisha with their situation of helplessness. Again, when faced with discouragement and apparent delay, the Canaanite woman persisted in worshiping the Lord. True worship will provoke positive change. John 4:23 says,

“But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.”

Do you want to provoke positive change? Make up your mind to worship God in spirit and in truth. Matthew 15:7-9 presents a category of people who are hypocritical in worship. These are the people whose hearts are far from God. I pray that you won’t be among those whose hearts are far from God. Another lesson from this story is faith. The woman provoked positive change by her great faith (Matthew 15:28). To emphasise the importance of faith, God in four separate places said: “The just shall live by faith” (Habakkuk 2:4, Romans 1:17, Galatians 3:11, Hebrews 10:38). Faith is acting on the word of God (James 2:18). Are you passing through a negative situation? Are people aware of your predicament but no one seems to care? God cares. If you don’t lose faith, there will definitely be light at the end of the tunnel.

Action Point:
Pick an area of your life where you need positive change and follow the example of the Canaanite woman to provoke positive change in this area.

SEEMS TO ME THAT BRING BACK OUR GIRLS IS DEAD ......

BY Chiamaka Alexandra Obitube
It seems like bring back our girls
campaign is about to die a natural death because it has run its course as expected to in Nigeria, I refuse to agree. They told us that our girls will be released.
They told us that the are negotiating with masked men.
They said our girls will never come back, I refuse to believe.
They told us that some of them have been taken to neighbouring countries, I refuse to believe
They tell us that some of them are injured, bitten by snakes, I refuse to believe. They told us that some of them are dead, I refuse to believe.
They told us that some of them have been married off, I refuse to believe.
But do you know what I believe in.
I believe that our girls will come back. That none of what they told us is true. I believe that they will return and when they do, there will be smiles on out faces, on the faces of
our parents and guardians.
I believe that this menace will stop.
It's not just enough by making placards with # bringbackourgirls on them. It is by making our
voices to continue to be heard. I write this because I am a Nigerian girl who goes to school everyday and not sure what is going to happen
tomorrow. It is sixty-five days and counting. We will not stop believing in Nigeria and if you still
believe in Nigeria, don't allow this campaign to stop until we have achieved our goal.
Make your voice heard so that our girls will return.

UNIABUJA SHUT DOWN OVER PROTEST

The university of Abuja has been shut indefinitely following a protest by students on the two campuses.

An official statement from the office of the Vice-Chancellor made the announcement after fresh protests on Monday morning at the university staff quarters.

The institution was closed down on Monday by the University's Governing Council while the students were ordered out of the hostels & campuses. According to the statement, all students are to vacate the hostels and university premises immediately adding that "further developments on the matter would be communicated in due course."

At main campus of the school, a notice has been placed in all departments and hostels ordering every student to leave the school compound immediately.

The university, which has been in existence for almost three decades, had been enmeshed in a series of crises, which had also impeded its growth. It was gathered that an industrial action recently embarked upon by a faction of the Academic Staff Union of Universities in the university also contributed to the crisis in the institution.

Tear gas canisters were reportedly shot in the air to enforce the students' eviction from the hostels and the mini campus and many had been seen packing their luggages preparing to leave.

Meanwhile students, with the theme #BringBackOurExams were protesting the lecturers' strike which had entered its 3rd week.
