"A WAKE UP CRY" BY IFEOMA AGBASI

Thinking aloud.... What are we going to do abt dis on going strike dat
is almost 6months without any better thing done only false hopes n
promises. Leaders of 2moro, are we just going to sit down n do
nothing? D say wen 2 elephant fights d grass suffers but I say wen d
grass grows tongs n make d elephants uncomfortable d elephants will
leave dy grass n go some where else. Seriously we need to do
something, we need to let dis 2 hrtless bodies know dat we are
actually humans n we feel dis pain dy are causing us. We are youths n
dis is how we can show den dat we can do something. Most heroes were
youths wen dy impacted a change is dis nation n beyond. 1 might be
thinking what are we going to do? Well we can do a lot but I suggest a
less expensive, n less dangerous movement. We dy students can start up
a movement by writing articles publishing it or writing pamphlets n
distributing it in eateries where dis 2 bodies sit down to have fun,
funny cartoons can also be used to portray and send out information to
dem. G8test students we seriously need to act, n do something . Its
better to do something dan sit down n do nothing. I believe we can do
it, we can fight, we are not just ordinary students . We are not only
leaders of 2moro 4 mouth we need to show dis people we gat what it
takes. If u think writing can't help remember dat most rights were
gotten tru d act of writing. Feminism, zikisim, human rights etc. We
can do dis yes we can collectively we can make a different. Let's wake
up n fight.

SEAN TIZZLE KEEPS DENYING SOUND SULTAN

When the song, Sho Le, became a massive hit, many people didn't know
who wrote it. They only knew it was recorded by a certain Sean Tizzle.
But about a couple of months after the song had become really popular,
it became enmeshed in controversy.
Natural Something singer, Sound Sultan, claimed that he was the one
who wrote the song and gave it to Tizzle to record for Sultan's record
label, Naija Ninjas, and that Tizzle absconded with it to Difference
Entertainment.
The basic reason Sultan cried out was because Tizzle never one day let
the world know that the song was actually written by Sultan through
shouting him out at performances, during interviews and other avenues.
After Sultan's shocking disclosure, Tizzle had to beg him, and the
issue was resolved amicably. Now, Tizzle is at it again. He is again
denying Sultan his writing credit on the popular song. In an interview
he granted recently on how the song came about, he didn't even mention
Sultan in connection with it. Will this get Sultan angry again?

STELLA ODUAH'S ARMOURED CARS WILL BUY 51 POLICE PATROL VEHICLES - GOV. FASHOLA

During the 7th annual Town Hall Meeting on Security held in Lagos,
Governor Fashola said the two BMW cars bought for Stella Oduah will
purchase 51 patrol vehicles for the Nigerian Police.
"It is sad to know that the Federal Government that allocate three
patrol vehicles for one state police command of 370, 000 police men,
is unable to resolve how N255 million was used to purchase 2 saloon
vehicles for one officer. It is a very grave irony. The cost of
average vehicle needed to patrol the state is just N5 million. And
with such fund, we will have put at least 51 patrol vehicles on the
road, patrolling the streets of Lagos."
"In spite of all this, they resist the idea of a state police. The
money from the fund was in the last one year used to provide vehicles
for the Nigerian Prison Service, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency,
NDLEA, Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, National Security and Civil
Defense Corps, NSCDC and indeed the airport wing of the Nigerian
police, is funded from this money. And it is the same aviation
ministry that manage the airport that we had this very odious car
scandal of N255 million." (PM News)

NIGERIA 'LL OVERCOME HER CHALLENGES - JONATHAN

President Goodluck Jonathan. Friday, expressed optimism in the unity
and survival of the country, saying that the present challenges of the
nation would strengthen her.
The President spoke at Umuida, Enugu Ezike, Enugu state during the
funeral of Mrs Paulina Eze, mother of Senator Ayogu Eze.
Jonathan said he was not deterred by challenges confronting Nigeria as
according to him "every country in the world has crises and
challenges".
He said: "The world is facing crises including Nigeria. These days
once you hear breaking news, its all about crises. I urge clergymen to
continue to pray for the country.
The nation has challenge no doubt about that, in the world there are
challenges everywhere. When you open the television, they will always
talk about crises here and there, there is always breaking news and
whenever you hear this breaking news, it is never a good news.
It is always sad, no good breaking news. All the breaking news I have
seen for the past period are crises. The world is in crises. We are
also having our own share of the crises but I am convinced that with
your prayers, the prayers of men and women of this country, God will
see us through."
He asked the family of Eze to emulate the good virtues of their
mother, explaining that what was important was not how long one lived
but what he/she was able to impact on others.
In his homily, Catholic Bishop of Nsukka, Revd. Godfrey Onah called on
the leaders of the country to be focused.
He said that the present challenges in the country were not
insurmountable, adding that it should strengthen the resolve of the
people in service of God.
He charged politicians to continue to look unto God especially in
difficult situations.
At the ceremony which attracted several Nigerians were Senate
President, David Mark, his Deputy Ike Ekweremadu, Governor Olusegun
Mimiko of Ondo state, Peter Obi of Anambra state and Sullivan Chime of
Enugu state.
Also present were National chairman of APGA, Victor Umeh, former
Anambra governor, Chukwuemeka Ezeife, former minister of power, Barth
Nnaji and several members of the National Assembly among others.
Senator Eze had described his late mother a hardworking and courageous
woman saying she brought up her family when the husband died by her
dint effort.
Also senator Mark praised God for the life late Mrs Eze lived, saying
it manifested in the great age which she attained before departure.

VARSITY GRADUATE FORGESs GOV'S LETTER-HEAD PAPER

The State Security Services (SSS) said on Friday in Lafia that it had
arrested a university graduate (names withheld) for allegedly forging
the official letter-head paper of the Nasarawa State Governor's
Office.
Mr Ngobiowei Awoikiega, the Assistant Director (Security) of the
service in the state, said that the suspect was a graduate of Business
Administration from the Nasarawa State University, Keffi.
He said the suspect was arrested in Akwanga, headquarters of Akwanga
Local Government Area of the state by operatives of the service
following a tip-off.
Awoikiega alleged that the suspect used the forged letter-head paper
and subsequently forged the signature of the Secretary to the State
Government, Zainab Abdulmumin, to introduce himself and one other
person whose name could not be disclosed with the intent of gaining
employment at the Federal Medical Centre, Keffi.
According to him, the suspect has made useful statements on the alleged offence.
"Unknown to officials of the Federal Medical Centre, Keffi, the
management honoured the letter printed on the fake letter-headed paper
from the Governor's Office by offering a provisional employment to his
(suspect's) client."
Ngobiowei advised the general public to avoid falling victims of the
activities of persons with fraudulent intentions.
Fielding questions from journalists, the suspect admitted committing
the offence, saying that he did it because he could not secure
employment since 2009 after his graduation from the university. (NAN)

NDLEA NAB MAN WITH COCAINE WORTH N81M AT KANO AIRPORT

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has paraded a drug
courier, Maduagwu Nnaemeka Charles, who was nabbed with three
kilogrammes of cocaine worth about N81 million.
The suspect was arrested at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport
(MAKIA), Kano with the cocaine as he arrived the airport from Brazil
en route Egypt.
The commandant of the agency in charge of MAKIA, Ambrose Umoru, said
the dangerous drug if diluted could make up to nine kilogrammes of the
substance.
He said Maduagwu was arrested during screening of passengers of Egypt
Air Flight No. MS 879.
"The suspect had boarded Ethiopian Airline flight No. ET 507 from Sao
Paulo, Brazil and transited to Cairo, Egypt, before arriving Kano via
the Egypt Airline before luck ran out on him," he said.
The 28-year-old suspect confessed before reporters that he was in
possession of two loudspeakers where the cocaine was neatly concealed,
but denied knowledge of being the owner of the dangerous substance.
"I met somebody who identified himself as a Nigerian in Egypt. When I
was making call, he discovered I was travelling to Nigeria and he
pleaded with me to assist him deliver the loudspeakers to somebody
here in Kano.
"He gave me a MTN SIM card and asked me to activate it once I got to
Nigeria so that the owner of the loudspeakers would call me for his
property, but little did I know that cocaine was concealed inside the
loudspeakers. I don't even know the owner, I was just trying to help.
"Yes I was caught with three kg of cocaine but I didn't know what I
was carrying," he added.
Maduagwu said he had lived in Brazil for 18 months, adding: "All this
while, I have engaged in menial jobs. The last job I got before
leaving for Nigeria was in a lorry park where I load trucks. These
menial jobs have been sustaining me; I don't know how I got myself
into this mess."
The high-grade pure cocaine, according to Umoru, was neatly
factory-sealed in the body-hollow of two loudspeakers brought by the
suspect which he said is a new mode of concealment by drug merchants.
He said the suspect would remain in the custody pending the conclusion
of investigation that would lead to his arraignment in court.

YAWA DEY (There is trouble) BY MARTIN BECK NWORAH

Thanks to Burna boy for painting our Nigerian scenario in his track
"Yawa dey";I got the lead/inspiration for this article from the song.
Now let me fire on. "Yawa dey my people",when Ahmed,a graduate has
stayed at home for seven years searching for job with no luck. He
decides to use his grandfather's old 505 for taxi service. In a
day,he'll visit the mechanic five times just to make sure the engines
are alive. While coming out from the fourth visit to the
mechanic, police stops him and insists he must drop something for the
boys. He looks inside his empty pocket, looks at the policeman, eyes the
dagger beside him and shakes his head...yawa dey.
Mr. Emeka has been dodging his landlord for the past five months to
avoid paying his long overdue rent. His pastor has been brainwashing
him that he must always sow in order to reap. He diverts his house
rent to the church hoping that one day, "pepper go rest" and he will
also ride his own BMW X6 like the pastor. Then one faithful
evening, the frustrated man meets his landlord in front of his
church, the pastor reminds him that he has not paid his tithe for the
month. The landlord complains to the pastor about his(Mr.Emeka's)
overdue rent and Mr.Emeka's son informs him that he has just been sent
out of school...yawa dey.
Tunde is at the parks with his mouth always open, ready for fight. He
makes around 500 naira from the motor parks and spends 450 on drinks
and cigarette. He is dating three ladies and lives in a one room
apartment with his three brothers. He has not eaten since today and
some people tell him that there is a political "peaceful" riot in the
state. They hand him a gun and recruits him as a foot soldier to do
other things before, during and after elections. He finishes the
job, escapes with the gun and is now sitting under the mango
tree, thinking of what to do with the gun, as he smokes away his pain.
Should I steal? Kidnap? Or kill? ...Yawa dey.
His name is Martin Beck Nworah,he wrote this article and is very much
interested in seeing that Nigerians read it. He hopes it will be
posted online for everyone to see. And as he completes his 102
push-ups and counts his Abs,he is wondering the type of "yawa" that
will "dey" if this article is not published or maybe you dare copy and
paste without permission....yawa dey. I believe we will settle all our
"yawa" and live happily in this country,so that when we must've
succeeded in getting to the Promised Land, you will pass me a glass of
water and thank God for the gift of grace for the race.

AAUA BEGINGS RECRUITMENT TO REPLACE STRIKING LECTURERS

The academic war between Management of Adekunle Ajasin University,
Akungba-Akoko [AAUA] in Ondo State and its striking lecturers has
deepened following a report that the Vice-Chancellor of the
institution, Prof. Femi Mimiko has commenced recruitment of new
lecturers to replace the striking lecturers, having refused to pull
out of the ongoing Academic Staff Union of Universities' [ASUU]
strike.
DailyPost has gathered that Prof. Mimiko remains resolute about his
decision to re-open the university on December 2, after he had ordered
the students to resume this Monday for the commencement of the second
term semester programme.
But the Chairman of ASUU in the institution, Dr. Busuyi Mekusi has
described the move by the management as illegal.
He has vowed that the union would resist any action by the
Vice-Chancellor to illegally recruit new workers to replace the
striking lecturers.

ANGER IN KANO AS HISBAH POLICE DESTROYS 240,000 BOTTLES OF BEER

It was a scene of confusion and bottled up anger in Kano State
recently when some overzealous policemen bent on enforcing Islamic law
smashed and destroyed over 240,000 bottles of beer, in what many
believed was a 'smokescreen' crackdown on behaviour seen as anti Islam
in the state. A source told newsmen that the bottles were seized from
trucks coming into the city in the last couple of weeks by officials
of Hisbah, which regularly enforces the strict Islamic law (Sharia) in
governor Kwakwanso's troubled state.
Another report from AFP stated that Sharia enforcers (Hisbah)
destroyed over 240,000 bottles of beer along with over 8,000 litres of
a local brew called Burukutu.

UBA BANK APPOINTS NEW CHAIRMAN

United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc, the pan- African financial services
group is delighted to announce the appointment of Ambassador Joe Keshi
as Chairman of the Board. Ambassador Keshi was appointed to the Board
of UBA in 2010 and was made Vice Chairman on January 1, 2011. He has

as a career diplomat, serving as Permanent Secretary, Ministry of
Foreign Affairs, Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Secretariat, The
Presidency, Charge d'Affaires, Embassy of Nigeria, The Hague,
Netherlands and Consul-General of Nigeria, Atlanta, Georgia.
Ambassador Keshi's appointment follows the retirement of Chief Israel
Ogbue, a member of the UBA Board since 2005 and Chairman since January
1, 2011. "It has been a pleasure serving the Bank. I have worked with
a group of men and women who have been responsible for forging an
extraordinary transformation in Nigerian and African banking.
Ambassador Keshi is an admirable choice to lead the Bank in its next
growth phase" said Chief Ogbue.
The Board also appointed Mrs. Rose Ada Okwechime as Vice Chairman. Mrs
Okwechime is the Managing Director of the Abbey Building Society Plc
and has played a leading role in financial services for over 20 years,
including time spent with the Bank of England.

executive management said, "We are looking forward to working with the

STELLA ODUAH TO FINALLY FACE SENATE DEC, 5

The embattled Minister of Aviation, Princess Stella Oduah will appear
before the Senate committee on Aviation next Thursday to explain the
incessant rate of air crashes in the country.
The minister was scheduled to appear before the senate in plenary a
fortnight ago but in a dramatic twist, the Senate rescinded its
decision and she was referred to the Committee on Aviation.
It would be recalled that the minister and heads of Aviation
parastatals were issued sweeping summons by the Senate to explain the
rate of crashes and near crashes in the country after the crash of the
Associated Airline carrying the body of late Ondo governor Olusegun
Agagu which claimed 16 lives.
In a move seen by many as move to give the minister a soft landing,
the Senate rescinded its earlier decision for the minister and other
heads of Aviation parastatals to appear before the Upper House to
explain the incidence of air crashes in the country.
The Senate earlier suspended its first scheduled meeting with Oduah
due to the absence of Senate President David Mark. The Senate Leader,
Senator Victor Ndoma - Egba (SAN) had informed lawmakers that the
Senate president had signified his intention to "personally" preside
over the Senate session with Oduah, a request that was speedily
granted by senators at the plenary presided over by Deputy Senate
President Ike Ekweremadu.
It will be recalled that the Senate Committee chairman on Aviation,
Senator Hope Uzodinma ( Imo PDP) also told the Senate Correspondents
that the lawmakers had nothing to hide that Oduah will appear before
the committee.
Mark was to lead the federal government delegation to the United Arab
Emirates for the finals of the FIFA Under - 17 World Cup between
Nigeria and Mexico that Thursday.

I-G OF POLICE ORDERS ADEQUATE SECURITY IN UNIVERSITY CAMPUSES NATIONWIDE

The Inspector-General of Police, Mr Mohammed Abubakar, has ordered
immediate provision of adequate security in and around university
campuses nationwide.
This is contained in a statement issued by CSP Frank Mba, the Force
Public Relations Officer, on Thursday in Abuja.
The statement said the measure was designed to secure life and
property in the institutions and provide enabling environment for
lecturers, students and other members of staff to go about their
lawful businesses without hindrance.
"The directive is a proactive and confidence-boosting measure designed
to ensure that nothing untoward happens in our academic communities,"
it said.
The statement directed all Command Commissioners of Police to
personally oversee the intensification of surveillance in universities
in their states.
It ordered them to "take all necessary security measures needed to
provide for the safety and security of members of staff and students
as well as property within the various Campuses".
It urged lecturers, students and Nigerians within the institutions to
remain law-abiding and go about their legitimate businesses without
fear of molestation or intimidation from any quarters.
It will be recalled that the Federal Government on Thursday gave
universities lecturers, who had been on strike since July, one week
ultimatum to resume academic activities.
Meanwhile, the I-G has urged officers and men of the force, who would
be involved in the supplementary election in Anambra supplementary
election on Saturday to remain steadfast.
He said they should be focused and neutral, as well as exhibit the
highest level of professionalism.
He reassured the people of adequate security in the state during the
election, promising that the force would continue to maintain optimal
presence in Anambra till the end of the election.
The police boss called on the people to cooperate with the police and
other security agencies in ensuring an atmosphere of peace and order
throughout the election.
Abubakar also urged politicians, traditional rulers, and opinion
leaders in the state to play by the rules and help in educating their
followers on the need to allow INEC and other government agencies to
conclude the election. (NAN)

SACK THREAT WILL FAIL - ASUU

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has said the threat by
the Federal Government to sack university lecturers would not only
fail but also worsen the situation and "another long path to make the
strike linger more than necessary."
With the threat, ASUU said it was evident now that the Federal
government was not ready to implement any resolutions it reached with
the union.
"It is a pity if the federal government is not willing to perfect the
resolutions reached with union. This is why we find it difficult to
trust our leaders by their words. How can someone be threatening to
sack lecturers when universities are already short-staffed by almost
60,000. We are not in Military era. The Military tried it and failed.
This one will fail again." ASUU said.

ANY LECTURER THAT DO NOT RESUME LECTURES BEFORE 4TH DECEMBER, 2013 WILL BE SACKED - FG

The Federal Government has directed vice-chancellors of all Federal
universities currently on strike to immediately re-open for academic
and
allied activities as directed by their pro-
chancellors.

Minister of State for Education, Mr Nyesom Wike gave the directive and
also asked the vice-chancellors to ensure that staff who resume for
work are provided with the enabling environment to carry out academic
activities.

He added that any staff who failed to resume on or before December 4,
2013 automatically ceases to be a staff of the institution and that
vice-chancellors are allowed to advertise vacancies for their
positions in their institution.

Mr Wike further said that the Federal Government has come to the
conclusion that the continued industrial action is an attempt by the
Academic Staff Union of Universities to sabotage all efforts to
address the issues, despite the commitment of government.

As a responsible government it cannot allow the continuous closure of
public institutions as this poses danger to the education system and
the future of Nigerian youths.

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has been directed to ensure
compliance of the directives by the various institutions.

THE ASUU STRIKE IS A MIASMA OF A DEPRECABLE APOTHESIS - HON. PATRICK OBAIAGBON

This ASUU strike is a miasma of a deprecable apothesis of an

EFCC SAYS $129BILLION FRAUDLENTLY TRANSFERRED OUT OF NIGERIA IN 10 YEARS

When will corruption and massive looting end in Nigeria? The Economic
and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) recently disclosed that about
$129 billion (N20.6 trillion) was fraudulently transferred out of
Nigeria in the last ten years. Quite shocking. The Ibrahim Lamorde-led
commission while quoting the Global Financial Integrity, based in
Washington DC, cited some of the sources to include tax avoidance,
corruption, tax evasions, illegal mining activities, drugs and human
trafficking.

AWKA YOUTH ENTREPRENEURSHIP SUMMIT BY PASODO

While we await resumption, here is something great we can do with our
time - for those of us who would like to be entrepreneurs.
Two days ago at the Aso Rock presidential villa, President Goodluck
Jonathan launched a youth empowerment programme that provides funding
to young Nigerians who have good business ideas in order to help them
put their ideas into reality. This funding is a grant (not loan) in
the range of one to ten million naira. It can also be given to youths
who already have a business and feel the need to expand.
I ran into some beneficiaries of the previous rounds of this
empowerment programme and luckily enough, they have agreed to come to
Awka to let us tap from their experience on how to apply and get such
fund.
I urge everyone who is currently in Awka to attend the Awka Youth
Entrepreneurship Summit,
