CAPITAL OIL AND GAS TAKEN OVER BY ANOTHER COMPANY

The Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria has taken over the
management of Ifeanyi Uba's Capital Oil and Gas Industries.
The Head of Corporate Communications,AMCON, Mr. Kayode Lambo, said in
a signed advertorial on Wednesday that the takeover became necessary
after AMCON acquired Capital Oil
and Gas' outstanding facilities from various banks.
The corporation said, "Following
discussions with COG, a resolution was reached, which was subsequently
adopted as terms of settlement in suit number FHC/
ABJ/CS/714/2012 at the Federal High Court. One of the key conditions
of this settlement is that AMCON takes over executive management of
the COG for a
period of two years.
"Dr. Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah, the erstwhile Managing Director/Chief
Executive Officer, has consequently relinquished his role as head of
the organisation. In the interim,AMCON has appointed an acting
managing director to ensure accountability and continuity of
operations."
AMCON had shut the premises of Capital Oil and Gas in 2012 following
an Abuja Federal High Court ruling that the agency should take over
the company's properties and assets over an alleged N48.014bn debt.

STUDENTS GIVE FG/ASUU 7 DAY ULTIMATUM TO END STRIKE

Culled: THE SUN

Peeved by almost two-month old strike by the Academic Staff Union of
Universities (ASUU), the National Association of Nigerian Students
(NANS), yesterday issued a one-week ultimatum to the Federal
Government and the union's leadership to resolve their differences or
face serious consequences.
The students said if the impasse was not resolved within the next
seven days, it will mobilise students on a nation-wide riot in what it
described as 'operation occupy Nigeria'.
The students' body appealed to ASUU to return to the classroom and
continue negotiation with the Federal Government since the latter
claimed to have released over N100billion for infrastructural
development and another N30 billionfor allowances.
This was the highpoint of a protest by the students who blocked the
Asaba end of the River Niger Bridge to press home their demands. The
protest caused traffic snarl for several hours as the students stalled
movements to the eastern part of the country even as those returning
were barred.
NANS coordinator in the South-South and South-East, Comrade Chinonso
Obasi, stated that students were at the receiving end of the strike
and vowed that they would take their destinies in their own hands if
the parties failed to reconcile within a week.
"We are appealing to ASUU that since the Federal Government has been
able to release N100 billion for infrastructural development and N30
billion for allowance, they should go back to classroom and continue
their negotiation or agitation. This is our prayer and wish.
"We are giving them one week to open the schools or be ready to face
corrosive consequences in form of nation-wide demonstration and riots.
We are ready to mobilise for that andit will beoperation
occupyNigeria," he said.
Lamenting the effect of the strike, Obasi said students have become
prone to accidents on the highways and the female students have been
reduced to sex hawkers on the streets.
His words: "I stand to tell you that a lot of accidents have
beenrecorded and 99.9% of the victims are Nigerian students. If
theywere in classrooms, they would not have fallen victims of
roadcrashes.
"Our female students have become commercial sex hawkers on the streets
in order to make ends meet. This colossal effect is more than what
ASUU is agitating for. Hence, we can no longer fold our arms and watch
things go wrong."

IFEANYI UBAH EMERGES LABOUR PARTY FLAG BEARER

Mr. Ifeanyi Patrick Ubah has emerged candidate of the Labour Party for
the November 16 governorship election in Anambra state, with voice
votes from the 1,137 accredited delegates of Labour Party. The event

that gathered from the twenty one local government area and 326 wards
of Anambra state to either witness or be part of the election, had in

Chairman of the party, Dan Nwanyanwu, challenged other political
parties to the fact that labour party is the only party devoid of
internal war and factions.

unprecedented process of the primary is a challenge to other political
parties who cannot achieve such feat, while the elated candidate
Ifeanyi Ubah, who in his acceptance speech maintained that
repositioning Anambra state to a social and humanist democratic
setting was his goal, urged other parties to emulate the peace and
harmony in Labour Party.

NOTE: CUT OFF MARK IS NOT OFFICIAL YET

WHY FACULTY OF EDUCATION CUT OFF MARKS ARE HIGH?

This is due to the fact that students who recorded below 200 in the
JAMB UTME, all changed courses to education, before unizik reduced
her cut off mark to 180, therein it was late to change back because
the change of course form was already closed.. So the faculty became
flooded and the indices had to be high to accommodate the given slots
for admissions. FACT

INSPECTOR GENERAL OF POLICE SET TO RE-MARRY

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr Mohammed Abubakar, is set to
re-marry, one yearafter the death of his wife, Maryram, the News
Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.
CSP Frank Mba, the spokesman for the force, who confirmed the story,
told NAN in Abuja on Wednesday that the wedding has been tentatively
fixed for Sept. 14.

public as the intended wedding was the private affair of the IGP.

``We must all remember that that there is a line between Mohammed
Abubkar as a private citizenof Nigeria and the office of the Inspector

Abubakar assumed office in acting capacity. (NAN)

ASUU STRIKE LATEST!

Government has decided to break off negotiation with the Academic
Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) over what it called the
infiltration of the union by the opposition to discredit the
government.
Sahara Reporters gathered that as the committee set up by the Nigerian
government to negotiate with the union gave a verdict of
non-compromise on the part of the union and 'security report' of the
infiltration of the opposition, it decidedto break the negotiation.
The committee had told the government that the union leaders were
arrogant and selfish as their interest was paramount to that of their
students who had been at home all this while.
The government after the report told the committee members that it had
fresh security report that the union's stance on the lingering crisis
in the education sector was as a result of the opposition's
infiltration into the union.
The government in breaking the negotiation has decided to fund
individual student's education as it is done in advanced countries.
As a way of making nonsense of the industrial action by ASUU,
SaharaReporters gathered that the government plans to introduce loans
to the students throughout their period in the university so as to
cushion the effect of the financial hardship on the students.
The government expects the students to re-pay the loans after
graduation provided they get jobs of their choice. It however could
not be ascertained how the loan to the students would compel the
lecturers to call off the strike.

OBIANO WINS APGA PRIMARIES

All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) on Monday elected Chief Willie
Obiano, as its torch-bearer for the November 16th governorship
election in Anambra state. Obiano, an Executive Director of Fidelity
Bank Plc., hails from Anambra East in Anambra North Senatorial zone.
He was elected in the governorship primaries in Awka. The Chairman of
the Electoral Panel, Chief Martin Agbaso, said Obiano polled817 votes
out of the 1,076, while Rep. Uche Ekwunife, got 150 votes. Chief Paul
Odenigbo had 49 votes; Emeka Nwogbo, 22 votes; John Nwosu, 18 votes;
John Emeka, one vote; while 16 votes were voided. Chief Patrick
Obianwu had earlier stepped down for Obiano, while Mr John Emeka's
withdrawal was turned down. Obianwu, whose withdrawal brought the
number of candidates to six, said he stepped down to keep the dream of
Anambra North zone producing the next governor alive. Delegates to the
primaries rated conduct of the election as most peaceful in the state
in recent times and a true reflection of the wishes of the party
members. Dr Edozie Aroh, the state Commissioner for Youths and Sports,
said that the party had shown that it was still strong in the state.
Aroh said that APGA was poised to retain the post of the governor in
the next dispensation. Also reacting, Mr Chinedu Obidigwe, the council
Chairman of Anambra East, said he was elated that the winner had
warned that the youth of Anambra would resist attempts by any party to
feature more than one candidate. Gov. Peter Obi, who addressed the
party supporters, urged them to sustain their support for APGA to
retain the governorship seat.
